The purple heart may tend to go "brown" or "maroon" as it oxidizes, too....depends on the piece/tree and other factors. (be careful of splinters... ;) )

    What does that mean?
has anyone figured out a paint/laquer that prevents the oxidizing?

It sure looks like you have the right equipment for the build anyway! I'm watching this one!

You may be able to delay a little with something that has UV inhibitors but there's no ultimate solution. Wood is gonna do what wood does. :)

Gonna give this stuff a try on the practice body, I've been looking for a safer alternative to nitro. I follow a guy on Instagram who uses it and he does some amazing stuff with it. 20190901_112247.jpg

^^^ Check out Andre's 12 string thread. Also some discussion at the Finely Finished sub forum. I've decided to wait, but I'll be interested in your results.

My first set neck has the bridge cranked up pretty high to get the string action (on the bass side) around 2.5mm at 12.

I had a chance to mill my glue edges tonight and get the body glued up.

Laying out fret positions, the mill is super accurate for this.

I'd think that ought to be close enough. I'd double check with a dial indicator for a second opinion.

I cut the 4.5 degree angle where the neck joins the body tonight. These V's are like a geometry lesson, they're all angles. I must have the tenon cut good because I can slide it home and then lift the guitar without it falling out. 20190919_203914.jpg

Here's my first one too, just a few days ago. Not perfect but it'll work.

Love the wood choices. Use a Sparathane type finish on the Purple Heart, it will help retain the purple color.

This guitar still has this shade of purple.

Triple-check your centerlines. I bought templates from that guy on eBay (assuming that's where you got them) and had issues with the centerlines being WRONG on several parts.
