Brushed finished hands down for me.
I like he idea of seeing inside but the acrylic is really plain. Maybe something with some color (smoky?)

That was very cool, but wonder why it said right at the end in small text on the bottom left "Cannot play this guitar".

I'd guess some of the parts don't actually work..like tuners perhaps?

Re the back.. Might I suggest you "frost" the inside with a light soda blast to give a whitish colour and to minimise the visability of any scratches which appear?

    Fantastic project!!!!!!!

Super cool. If I were doing it, the finish would be anodized ... blue or purple or red or something. Of coarse the problem with that is that most of the unwashed masses wouldn't even realize it was aluminum.

    Hey, I resemble that remark!

ccotton, sweet project. Is this one for you?

I think there was another member here that was making aluminium guitars.

You all have great ideas here! The frosted back idea is nice too. Could even put designs into that. We have a frosted vinyl here that I could use. I could cut out a design in that, apply it to the acrylic, and play the F out of the guitar and let the exposed bits scratch, then peel off the vinyl to see what's left behind! I have a lot of options here for the back and a lot of material available to me when I do decide to swap out the back. Currently the idea is so that you can see whats going on inside.

I had actually thought about anodizing it black and then engraving a design in the top but in the end I decided I didnt want to anodize because I want to see how this will "wear." If it all turns out nice I plan on playing this every show we do. I want to see how it scratches, how it oxidizes, how it dings and dents, and how much attention it gets ;)

Thanks! Yeah, this on is for me currently. I've already been approached by one person who say's they'd buy it from me when I'm done but I've shot that down. I have to admit that currently on the design side this is kind of addicting though and I'm already tossing around ideas for a second design...

Sounds like your new career is well on its way! Very cool project.

That's a heavy body. What do you estimate the final weight to be?

The body weight is going to be right around 7lbs according to Solidworks. I'm estimating a higher 9lb final setup. That doesnt bother me too much personally. yet.. depending on what it does come out to be then guitar number two will have a lot more design changes to reduce weight such as a thinner top and side walls.

An off the wall idea for the top, perhaps you could create a "mask" from thin ply or MDF and soda blast a design onto the top, like National do on their resonators......could even repeat the design on the acrylic/polycarbonate back

    Cool project, I'm subscribed.....

I'm putting in my vote (not that I get one) for anodizing. A brushed surface with bronze anodizing.

Im gonna disagree Telemaestro, I think ot should fully celebtrate the fact its made from Aluminium and have a brushed or milled finish...not that I have any effluence whatsoever....
