I have 3 dogs, two old and laid back, one is a 18 month old nut case!
One night about 2 weeks ago, a big possum was in the back yard and he ran into him, the possum hissed at him then chased about 10 feet, the dog hasn't been the same since!!
Now he walks out, looks around and actually seems to tip toe on the deck so the beast won't find him.
I have laughed ever night since, but he scared of the backyard at night, guess it's off to the Doggy Shrink soon,,,lol

My dog (a nearly 4yr old Beagle) is a complete coward now after he got a taste of a rather large stray cat outside.

He doesn't even like going outside unless I stay there watching him as he goes.

The problem most certainly arose from the fact that our old (18yrs) cat has let him toss her around like a ragdoll since he was a puppy without so much as a hiss... we think she is a masochist.

Then, he saw himself another plaything outside and attempted the same antics and was met with the ol' daggers...

Kitty put the fear of god in him.

I think it depends on the breed, my last dog was a English staffy, within a few weeks of bringing him home at 7 weeks old I used to find the bodies of dead rats in the backyard minus their heads. They were the same size as him. He showed no signs of aggression towards me or other people though and was fine with cats.

I had a red setter before that and he would chase them around and then crap himself when they retaliated when cornered.

Buy the opossum a train token.
That will get rid of him.

Only thing my dog is scared of is the cat. But I'd imagine every dog within a square mile is scared of that cat.

Oddly enough, some idiot introduced them to Vancouver Island. Haven’t seen one since I lived in Oklahoma, though.

It'll take time. My Great Dane grabbed a skunk about 3 in the morning when my wife left him out to go and he got a face and mouth full of skunk. He was definitely leery a month or two. He had to stay on the porch for the night. Him crying on the one side of the door and my wife on the other side crying. Memories.

Possums eat ticks, but I'm afraid my beagles would have a little fun at the possums expense. I've seen them hunt and it's pretty brutal think of the raptor scene in Jurassic Park. They might only be 13" but they don't play.

When I used to record my own backing tracks using a sequencer and two 8 track reel to reels synchronized giving me 16 tracks, I had a room at the back of a large shed that was my "recording studio". Out in the shed on the roof of my R S lived mom and pop Possum. During the evening when I'd be recording I never heard a peep from these Possums because it was dark and I assumed they'd be out hunting for food but if I did some recording during the day they would both jump up and down of the roof of my studio and it could be heard on the tapes. I guess they knew I needed absolute silence for recording so they made it that damned impossible to record by their jumping up and down and making a squealing noise. The number of times I had to wipe live recorded tracks because of those possums are too many to count.. S:mad::mad::mad:
