    Progress!

Just removed the old grill cloth. Approximately 60 staples with a screwdriver and pliers. Thought for sure there'd be a trip to the Emergency room but I beat the odds.

    Time for a Pabst!

Which one? Floral, stripes, or burlap? IMG_0886.JPG IMG_0887.JPG IMG_0888.JPG

I like the burlap but they all will be fine as long as they are acoustically transparent. The original cloth was like playing the amp with a cover on it. I found replacing it to be the single most beneficial improvement. Of course I couldn't stop there with mine though.

I'm leaning towards the burlap. I saw a stripe pattern with similar colors that would have been great but it was a thicker material. I'm not digging this pattern so much.

Looks good, and the tone after the speaker and tube change?

Excellent. Love the look with the burlap after all. Glad to hear that the muffled sound is fixed.

I put the factory one back in. I'll have to order a couple more Mullards payday and see what happens.

It was sounding better with the Mullard.

I had one of those for a minute. A buddy gave me a chunk of silver grille cloth for it, but you can find the stuff pretty cheap on the web. I found one site that had a bunch of vintage stuff for pretty cheap.
Changing out the cloth on these amps is the most important mod you can do. Wish I still had mine, nice having my amp tucked under my arm while carrying my guitar and have a hand free for door knobs or beers.

    Update:

This thing is sounding better everytime I play it!

Haven't had a chance to order a replacement for the preamp tube that blew so I'm still running the factory tube. The new power amp tube is holding up and everything seems to be settling in well.

My buddy was over the other day and couldn't believe how much better it sounds. It's definitely louder, tighter and has more...texture?

Anyway, for an amp with just an on/off switch and a volume knob, I'm really loving this thing. It also works great with pedals. I'm starting to think I'm going to just mic it through a PA once I start jamming again.

Won’t be long now until you graduate to a Pro Junior...
