I bought this new in 1990. I paid $300 for it at Buzzo in Geneseo, NY. We've been through the wars together. I played 5 SGs that day. This one was ugly and only had 3 knobs so I played it last. I knew the second I played an open G chord that it was the one.

I believe guitars are made to be used. I've clearly used this one. I just started playing it again in my current band after a few years rest. This is one of those guitars that rarely needs a setup for some reason.

I put Schaller tuners on it after the 3rd set of Klusons exploded. I put Lollar Imperial Humbuckers in it about 10 years ago. That was a very good decision. The pickup mounting rings had warped and become brittle. I had the red one in my parts from a Peavey set-neck Tele I once owned. I just snapped the warped part off the black neck ring.

I've used this axe for so many gigs and recordings. The sticker on the back is from a NYC Taxi. I peeled it off the back seat of the Taxi and stuck it on the guitar after a gig at CBGB's. I once almost got beat up recovering this from another band's van after a gig that took place on the deck of a docked warship, a missile cruiser. We played under the missile launchers. The other band had loaded it in with their gear and didn't believe my guitar was in their van. They did not like being seen as thieves. I almost lost the guitar and a couple teeth that night.

I do not name my guitars, but this one probably deserves a name.

Beater SGs are the best SGs. Here's mine

1975 Standard, picked it up for $350 about three years ago. Has a fixed heel break, harmonica bridge replaced, T-Top bridge, Super Distortion neck, refretted, and some extra holes by the volume controls.

I've never been in Buzzo's but driven by it a few times!

We live in DC-area Northern Virginia, but my wife is from Caledonia, NY ( Mumford/Avon/Leroy, Geneseo) and we visit every year now ( since 1980), been to House of Guitars many years ago- what a mess!

    Nice SG, a player's player!

    * need to stop in Buzzo's in December!

I have family inn Livonia and Mt. Morris and am quite familiar with that area. I haven't been to Buzzo in a long time but next time I am in. Geneseo I am stopping. My Mom bought me my first guitar there in 1970, a Guild Madiera acoustic. I was 4.

I was at the House of Guitars last month. Those cabinets full of guitars are way less full nowadays. What is there is all pretty cool. They used to all be overstuffed with guitars. Downstairs in the vinyl/CD zone it is as chaotic as ever. They had a really clean 70's MusicMan Stingray there. I have 2 of them but I wanted it anyway!

I like the hot dog shop ( 'white hots'?).right near HOG!

    * Have memories of seeing the gold ES-295, Firebirds, and Gretsches at the House of Guitars, plus Fender amps, all kinds....

Either that or just simply call it Fred...

Nice guitar by the way! I never bonded with the SGs and Les Pauls that I have played.

They had some really cool old Japanese guitars there. Still lots of Gretsches but fewer vintage pieces. I hope they make it through this.

I think the place you remember was called Irondequoit Hots. It isn't there anymore, but they have other locations still. Nick Tahou's is similar, probably the original, and Henrietta Hots is good. There are a bunch of places that have the Zweigel's White Hots and those awesome Garbage Plates.

Falling back in love with my SG. I bought it new back in 1991. I put 9s on it a few years ago, and that totally killed the sound and character of the guitar to the point where I had quit playing it. A few days ago, I put 11 back on and all is well. Color has faded from bright white to a pleasant yellow/cream color.

My 2007 Special Faded with a Pearly Gates set. I'm thinking about taking the covers off to keep with the raw theme.

You can't really see in this pic but the horns on my 90s '61 RI have both had the finish chipped off. This guitar toured the East a few times and was my main guitar for most of the 90s. I'm kind of amazed it survived in such good condition. It's still the best sounding guitar I own, though I have a couple now that come pretty close.

Just stage blood. It was the end of the set. When I went to squirt some blood it into my mouth the nozzle top blew off the little bottle and the whole bottle's contents ended up being propelled at high velocity. My best D-Con shirt got ruined LOL
