I picked up this small spark amp to practice with some tunes while trying to get my hand working again. The fender amp I dug ou of the closet. It was my dads. I never even plugged it in. He gave me his guitars and stuff before he died. When I was young I used his tube ampeg that had a 12” speake. Never found that. I had an amp V-4 and 4- 10’s. I hope the fender amp doesn’t smoke when I plug it in. My variac is stripped down and my shop is a mess since moving next pick is the fender. When I was young, all my friends and I had Marshall’s or a pegs. I remember a lot of fender twins but this is my first fender amp. How is this model?

How many years since these amps were last serviced? You may not want to power them up until you take them to an amp tech.

Is the Deluxe Reverb an original Blackface from the 1960's ? Or the '65 Reissue ( from late '90s> forward?)

Either way, ( of course vintage would be awesome), a Deluxe Reverb is a fantastic amp, and I would have a tech check it out.

Its not from the 60’s. When I get back I will take a picture of the back and any labels and info. I know when I glanced the speaker had a fender sticker and I think it said 65 model somewhere it might be from the 80s or 90s

The common consensus around here is that tube amps need to be serviced (caps replaced) around every twenty years. If you fire up an old amp with a bad capacitor, it could take out the power transformer (among other things). Components age and drift out of spec, so getting those replaced will ensure the amp will perform the way it was designed to.

There are serious amp techs & electrical engineers reading this post who can speak authoritatively about this.

Put it on my bench and bought it up to voltage slow. No smoke, electrolytics good and nothing I could see was burned open. Plugged it in and strummed a guitar. It’s working great, everything works. I printed up an operators and service manual. This is a pic of the back. I think I have to look in more places for something indicating date.

I found a site where I could enter the serial #. According to the site, the amp is a 2001. Anyway, it’s in like new condition. I cleaned it up, vacuumed and dusted. What a nice sounding amp. It is certainly a nice discovery that I had amongst my dads stuff.
