San Marino Blue. Same color as Cadillac's Eldorado convertible of the same year. It was rattle-canned black when I got it. The blue was underneath.

And, I forgot to mention, a '61 pickguard.

How did you get the Black off without ruining the original finish?

Very slowly, and very carefully! I used varying grades of steel wool, then rubbing and polishing compounds. Took all day!

Damn that's beautiful. Just friggin' georgeous. Even the wacky bend on the TA is cool.
Other than the guard, is everything else original?

That's one of the things that made me realize this guitar was meant for me! See,,, I play the trem with my wrist. Someone, sometime, must've played the same way. I never have to reach for the trem arm, and can seamlessly include it in my "wacky" playing style. The bridge pup is a Fralin. 5-way switch. Push/Pull Volume pot turns on the bridge pup for the bridge/neck, and a 3 pup combinations. This guitar gigged a lot.

Edited to add; That one pic is of the trem bar in playing position.

I do the same thing sometimes. Picking while bouncing my wrist. True pitch shifting vibrato.

That's a very sweet strat. I always wanted a 50s strat, in something other then sunburst. Never could find one at what I thought was a reasonable price. Love the neck.

wow thats beautiful, tell us a little more about it, how old is it? And it was black? and blue underneath what was the guitars original color?

I think single ply's look more correct on 57's

It's a '57. The San Marino Blue is it's original color. When I got it, it had been rattle-canned black, and had stick on letters on the upper horn, "BOB." There's a guy nearby who has a 1957 Caddy Eldorado. Exact same color. I had flirted with the idea of putting on a repro 57 pickguard, the holes are there. But,,, I mean, the '61 guard is pretty cool, and has been on the guitar for a long, long time.

    Nice!

It looks great and I love the neck. The cat seems to approve, too.

I love Gibsons but nothing looks like a well worn Fender does.

That thing is hot! Really fantastic looking. It reeks of small bars, cigar smoke and cheap whiskey...

    Awesome

It would look good with a Floyd Rose Trem (just Kidding, just kidding)
Awesome guitar. Love the color, real relic vibe.

There was a 57 Strat, ivory color, on Antiques Roadshow a while back, complete with 57 or 58 tweed amp. Fairly unique offering as anyone who watches the show knows. The appraiser was gushing like a schoolgirl over it. Ins. value estimate with amp?
$50K. WAY more than the 61 or 63 SG that was on the show another time, which IIRC was 6-8K. But the Strat was in excellent condition, and I mean excellent.
Yours is the better color though! In fact, it would be a great match to a '57 Vette which was available in the same color:D
