Not really a TV watcher, but I watched some growing up. I always liked Gilligan's Island. Aside from that, there were a couple of English sit-coms that I used to like, that we'd get now and then on PBS. They were "Keeping up Appearances" and "Are you being served".

How I Met Your Mother - Probably my favorite ever. I know it dragged on too long, but my wife and I started watching it when we were dating so it kinda became our thing.
    New Girl - Freakin' hilarious!
Modern Family - Phil Dunphy is the best sitcom character since Al Bundy.

I tried to keep it recent. If we were doing a top 5 I'd add Home Improvement and Roseanne to the list. I'd also squeeze Married With Children in, because I'm not good at sticking to parameters.

Steptoe and Son (heavily rewritten and remade in the US as Sandford and Son).

Green Wing (early appearance from John Oliver as the car salesman)

The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin - probably the most peculiar sit com every made (and yes, I do remember Soap)

"Family Matters" (although, I think the show "jumped the shark" when Stefan Urkel was added to the character list)

"Sanford & Son". (I love the episode where they're filming an episode of "Steptoe & Son"!)

    M*A*S*H

    Everybody Loves Raymond!"

    King Of Queens

Andy Griffith Show (Clarence White appeared in an episode (maybe two?) as a member of The Darlings/Dillard's.)

    Married With Children

Monty Python (I've got a 14-DVD set of their skits.)

    My favorite sitcoms are:

    Chicago P.D.

    Law and order reruns.

    Fox News.

If you can't find something to laugh about in those three choices, you're one tough dude.

There's almost soap opera or sitcom-like qualities to sports anyway though: "OMG did you hear about what so-and-so said about other guy? And I heard so-and-so has a substance abuse problem, while Jock McSportsalot officially changed his name to 'Dawg Fighter' before dropping his new album live on Dancing on the TV..."

Sometimes the "off the field" antics are ridiculous enough I wonder where the laugh track is.

I try to look the other way and "just watch the game," but I can't not watch :(

I watch Fox News too much although I've backed off a great deal in the last 4 months. I was watching WAY too much.

You made me think of a new question.
"Your favorite Fox News anchor woman"?

    I like Shannon Bream alot.

    Okay back to sitcoms.
