How do they compare in terms of sound quality?
Just ordered a MM+ and will let you know for sure after A/B-ing it with the MPP in person. After some very unscientific listening and tinkering (details below), I think they're going to end up comparable with each having its own limitations. The MPP has a few things that are definitely not good (fuzz, octave) where Fender's equivalents in the MM+ sounded pretty good in the Anderton's video.
Last night, I re-watched the Anderton's MM video from three years ago and played mine alongside it to calibrate expectations of what the audio from YouTube is like. Everything was routed into my audio interface and monitored directly with good headphones. Haven't had the thing out in awhile and I agree with @Vibro Chimp that there's a sterile quality about most of it.
If Anderton's recorded its MM and MM+ videos the same way, the MM+'s built-in patches sound a lot better. Based on the settings visible in the MM+ video, I recreated Fender's Driven Deluxe and Uber Metal in my MPP as closely it allowed and found the sound quality just as good.
I have the MM parameter data that leaked out of Fender and will try setting up some MM+ patches based on that as I get the time.
