"If finalized as expected this week, the exemption will allow finished musical instruments as well as parts and accessories containing rosewood to be transported freely around the world without permits.

Trade in raw-material rosewood would remain regulated and subject to permits granted by individual countries."

I like rosewood (or rosewood like) fretboards on my electrics. I have guitars with rosewood boards, with PF boards, and with IL boards, and, even though I may not be able to tell the difference in sound between them, I can tell the difference between them and maple boards, like it or not.
And, anyone who can't hear the difference between a mahogany body Martin and a rosewood body Martin needs to get a hearing test pronto.

Fender will continue to do whatever is the most beneficial to their bottom line.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I can hear the difference between Rosewood and Mahogany. I tend to prefer Mahogany. In this case it is a Sinker Mahogany.

I never said, nor suggested, that there was anything wrong with that. I was merely stating a fact.

Gibson got raided on a technicality and endured lumber confiscation and huge fines.

Bob Taylor owns his own Ebony mill in Cameroon where he controls the lumber and pays local wages (that's all fine).

Now they're changing the rules and loosening everything up.

    We all righty then.

Good grief. The fiasco that Gibson went through.

I can't get this image out of my head.

The Gibson Wood problem was on raw material. That is still being controlled. Still like the picture.

The Gibson problem happened with rosewood that was cut to fretboard size and imported with fret slots precut. If the wood would have entered the States as raw lumber then that would have been acceptable. The fretboards cleared customs but were deemed unacceptable at the factory raid.

My point was that the legislation of all of this has been absurd.

    I think.

This is bad news, I was planning my retirement fund around my hoard of rosewood necks.

I liked one article which stated that a group of musicians couldn't distinguish between clarinets made of various woods and those made of HARD RUBBER. How's that for "tone" materials?

The physics of an instrument which makes its sound by air passing through a hollow tube is hardly the same as that of a stringed instrument. DUH!

I'm not so sure about that. I read in another article that the exemption will specify "finished musical instruments".

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Yes we will wait and see, but Im really excited for this news, I dont mind having maple neck with rosewood board, but an all rosewood neck is heaven..

finished musical instruments, parts. etc... hopefully the ones from Ebay can get through as its already a finished part which is a neck of a guitar..

Im looking forward to having more of this

I have had no interruptions in ordering new rosewood necks on ebay. The only supply change I have noticed has been fender doing the old switcheroo on their rosewood necks for pau ferro.

I ordered a rosewood neck from them about 12 months ago with no problems.
I wouldn't hesitate in ordering another. They have still been listed for sale and delivery throughout this debacle.
