So here is my example.

I don't mean to disparage anyone's taste in music. Different strokes for different strokes and all that. But I read today about this sub-genre called folk metal and so I googled it.

I can't get through a single video without laughing. It all just seems so silly. I mean - if I was in a bad mood and needed cheering up this is what I would watch. They just slay me. And yet these folks have record deals and videos and the whole nine yards.

I have watched a ton of videos and they all just leave me laughing.

I don't know, it is probably just me, but this has to be the goofiest things I have ever seen.

I am sure that is the best music in the world to some, but I just can't get it.

Anyone else have music that hits them that way? Again, not trying to be a hater - just music that you don't get.

We had death metal and Christian metal... why not folk metal? I guess the best thing you can say about it is, "It was bound to happen sooner or later."

I just picture guys who look like the Kingston Trio playing pointy guitars and Marshall stacks.

Nothing about ANY "metal" music ever appealed to me. After watching some folk metal on youtube, my opinions haven't changed. Yuck. But, that's just me.

I personally can't relate to progressive rock (of the 1970s or any age). There is some great musicianship in that genre, but it just doesn't move me.

The only songs I've ever liked by bands like Yes, etc. have been the ones that weren't "typical" songs by those bands (i.e., "Owner of a Lonely Heart" by Yes).

I also don't really care for most shredders; there are individual songs or artists that might make me pause, but rarely will I listen to an entire song, let alone an entire disc...the main offender of this genre is Yngwie.

Yngwie's pre-performace checklist:
-Awesome technical ability? Check!
-Stupendous speed? Check!
-Identifiable image? Check!
-Heart or Soul? Er...oops! I knew I left out something!

That's just my opinion, of course. Probably some of the stuff I listen to is ridiculous in other people's minds...

How about embedding a favourite youtube video? Mebbe something with banjo shredding!

Here is my favorite - in that I like it the best - but it still cracks me up. A Swedish band - seems this is very popular in Nordic countries. You have got to love a metal band with a Hurdy Gurdy.

Being of Scottish heritage I really wanted to like this Scottish band. Oh boy.

Wow, I watched about 40 seconds of Davidgs1's link and felt like Pete Seeger at Newport when Dylan plugged-in...

I can't say I'd listen to it regularly, but that clip from Alestorm is kinda fun. Made me smile, anyhow. It's easier to enjoy if you just listen to the music and don't watch the video. Easier to believe it's not meant to be taken 100 percent seriously. And you have to at least admit "Alestorm" is a great name for a Scottish metal band.

I don't know...there's something about Gaelic drinking songs and rock that just seems to work for me. This doesn't rise anywhere near the level of the Pogues or even Dropkick Murphys, but hey -- I enjoyed hearing the song once, at least. :D

Having never heard of it I was quite content in my ignorance until this thread. Thanks Blazer

I resonate with quality music of any kind but I cannot resonate with rap, hip hop or heavy metal, whatever that is.

I'm Scots/Irish, but I don't really like Celtic music.
My dad loved it, it was his favorite stuff for the last 25 years of his life.
It's the "triplet" time feel of it that bugs me.

So here is my example.

Like all other metal!

Didn't someone do a metal version of Joan Baez - Diamonds& Rust about 10 years ago?

Tommy Ramone has a bluegrass duo, but I think it's traditional & serious...
