^^^^ Sick to death of the songs we grew up humming and blasting on the car radio now used as music beds under spots for feminine hygiene products, hipster electronica, etc. I think the first time I ever heard a popular song in a commercial was back in the '80s and it was an Eric Clapton song in a Michelob spot. Anyone remember the song?

Easily one of the most insipid ad campaigns I've ever seen, and if you're looking to distribute blame it's for Nationwide (who could learn a thing or two from Progressive, Geico, Farmers' ads). It was one of about four ads they'd cut to when streaming MLB... wife and I got very familiar with location of the mute button.

I'm just a TV sheep, but I got a soft spot for 'Flo' and Co. Stupid, but I laugh...

The actress ( Stephanie?) was a phone operator on the first season of Mad Men

Then there are the Boomer commercials with the actual singers mugging in it.

A political ad firm I know works with one of the top dudes for original scoring. He can turn around a 2 or 3 (more?) in a given day and a bunch more during the cycle. Needless to say, the guy makes serious bank.

years ago when mortality was not my issue , I cassette recorded many tv commercials and movies ,( year of living dangerously , time machine, several startrek episodes ,)and just listened to the music totally out of visual context to hear how music was used in the visual arts , the experience was a real eye opener for production at the time and for recording methodology, I learned alot from the way music is used in TV and movies
