Saw him at Knebworth 1981. He jammed with Chuck Berry at the end of his set - Jeeeeeeez
That would have been a great show.
I saw him in ‘79 or ‘80 in a club in Tucson, up there sitting on his stool looking saintly. He’d gotten pretty frail - the band was carrying him at that point, but he’d sing each song and play a little bit of guitar. It was far from his peak, but I was happy to get a chance to see him up close and personal just once… He only lived 2-3 more years…
Thanks for posting the concert; I'm looking forward to hearing it.
I was only 17 in '79 so I missed that show, but I saw him open for Clapton in the "wedding day" concert at TCC. He seemed more engaged than Eric did!
I think I know or play ever guitar lick, slur, double-stop I just heard in that opening instrumental the T-Bone Walker- style shuffle. ( maybe Bob Margolin?), when playing similar tempo blues, once in a while.
I think I may have picked up these phrases listening to The Nighthawks in the early 1980's, long before I could ever play them, but they stuck in my head.
I saw him that year at the Roxy. great great band. Sam had a led zepplin belt on.
Oh boy, I know @Flaneur is going to like this thread.
Yep....Muddy's later work is better, than most peoples' best.
