I'm always finding myself being negative on these forums, so let's talk about the pedals that are those gems on our board. I know the stock Boss BD-2 blues pedal is one that will never leave my board again (took it off once). I like my boutique pedals and fancy tricks, but this one does it for me.
PS on the more expensive side, the Barber Gain Changer which is a fairly new product is underrated. On the cheaper side, the Boss SD-1 is a great little pedal, as is the Boss Tremelo.

Though they haven't been out long and really aren't underrated.. They are Underknown

The new line of Moog Minifoogers are a good bet to look at. I bought the OD and couldn't be more happy.... 170 dollars and 40 dollars for Moog EP 3 expression pedal It can also be used as a WAH clean boost or Fuzz.. Not just an OD.

It is designed to work woth any amp or pickup configuration.

I find it does extra well on strats and teles and fender amps.

You start out with a good clean signal and then you can dial in a huge variety of Overdrive for American voiced to British.. Hiwatt, Marshall Vox.

I run my pedals/guitar through a 69 Dual Showman Reverb that has been black faced and has a Dumble ODS mod. It was also done by someone that knows aht they are doing and I know my amp was done right.

It was don't By Hallamplification. They are are the Perfectors of VVR and main suppliers of VVR. Ive been friends with them for 40+ years.
Dana and Richie Hall.

Dana was friends with Ken Fischer of Trainwreck amps and was Elected to build the Ken Fischer Tribute amp when Ken died. Ken Fischer was friends with Dumble.... So Dana knows a Whole lot of things that many don't have privilege to know. Dana spent time at Fischer Home and they were very god friends.

So like I said I know my amp is done right and it has a very correct as possible Dumble ODS mod in it.

This pedal is the best in the business and especially for the money for emulating amp distortion be it classic American overdrive or British voiced.

and im of course not speaking of Fuzz. Of which it also does a really good Cornish P1 emulation. I also want to emphasize the low end and definition in this pedal.

Anyone that wants a Dumble ODS in a pedal.. This OD can do it. But you have to mess with the controls. this is not a pedal for someone that does not want to experiment. If anything this pedal is geared towards a Huge low end and a very clean and articulate low end. You better have good speakers with this pedal. It can also get screaming highs of course but the low end is really nice.

I haven't been able to use it with humbuckers yet but it is advertised as getting along with any amp or pickup configuration.Probably because it is not just made for a guitar. They do well with instrument. you can get a signal on. They have a wide frequency response.

This is not any kind of copy or clone of any circuit. It is a Moog 2/4 pole ladder filter than has so many combinations it will keep you busy for months/years. Especially with the expression pedal.

And of course there is no best pedal and there are so many good 1's we would all go broke buyong/trying them all.

The complete line of Minifoogers are 199.00 or less each. 40 for the expression pedal. The OD and expression pedal was 210 dollars.

But for the money .. ( 200 or less ) the new Moog Minifoogers are very versatile and are very high quality pedals and Real hard to beat.. all of them are capable of being controlled via expression pedal.

These pedals are also 100% parts sourced and hand built in Asheville North Carolina. There are no cheap chips in these pedals.

Very rarely do they have to source chips elsewhere. But if they do they use only NOS high quality chips. There are NO Modern chips in these units and are very hard to find. Ive been waiting on the minifooger dealy for 5 months. They are having a hard time finding enough chips that meet spec to do a run of these mini delays. also no tap tempo on the Mini delay. on the moogerfooger there is and the 500 series rack mount delay.

I believe I am just going to save for the 500 series rackmount Moog analog delay. It is king of analog delay.

They give free tours and you can watch them assemble the pedals. They also have a room you can go into that has every Moog Product made and they will let you try them out.

I would love to try the Moog Guitar.

The Minifooger OD/ladder filter did away with a standard Wah for me. This OD other than being an OD is also capable of being either a clean or dirty WAH and has a variable sweep and Huge clean articulate Low End.

When I upgrade to the Moogerfoogers I will use this OD as a dedicated WAH.

Many people also don't know it but Bob Moog built the Maestro PS-1 phase shifter for Mr. Oberheim. They make a really nice Moogerfooger Phase shifter.

This is simple enough;

Most underrated pedal; any one you own

Most overrated pedal; one you don't own

Now we can get on with everyone's list of favorites and a few knocks from those who've tried others favorites and for them they sounded like crap. This is usually followed either by a shrug and an "it works fine for me" or by an explanation of what the hater must have been doing wrong.

Proceed. :D

The Mrs. been getting on your nerves today soulman?

I have a Carl Martin Compressor that I bought in the 90's and it has never left my board. That and a JD 10. Both were talked about by the Hellecasters so they had to be good, right? Well they are. I have never had to do anything but plug them in.
I haven't used the JD 10 in a while, but the CM stays put.

Well there isn't one anymore Gary but if she was still around there's no doubt she'd be getting on my nerves. If she was as good at everything else as she was at that we might still be married. :p

Not really an effect, but the BOSS LS-2 is a real sleeper...
It mostly does one thing at a time, but it really is the Swiss Army Knife of pedals...

* It's an A/B Box (Guitar select with separate volumes)
* It's an A/B Box (Amp select)
* It's a 2 channel mixer
* It's an extremely transparent clean boost, or cut (most boosts can't cut volume), with two independent & switchable levels...
* It has two independent & switchable FX loops
* It can be used for parallel effects. (ie: blend dry with an effect, or an effect chain)
* It can be used in any other creative way you can think of...

+1 on the BOSS LS-2, fantastic multi-function pedal.

My most beloved (and underrated) pedal is the BOSS RV-5 reverb. I'm always looking into ambient guitar stuff, and it seems like when it comes to reverb (a huge part of ambient guitar) the go-to's are Strymon or other high-dollar boutique pedals. Those are great pedals I'm sure, but the RV-5 has so many great reverbs, including the best (in my opinion) modulated reverb I've ever heard.

A close 2nd for me is the Tech 21 Boost DLA. Tap tempo, tone control, trails, .8th setting, controllable tape emulation. I seem to be the only owner though, because I never see it on anyone else's board haha.

The LS-2 sounds like a useful box, I wasn't aware of it's blend or boost capabilities, I'll have to check one out.

My heads Up is a Boss too. Boss HF-2 Hi Band Flanger. The standard BF-2 is a nice sound but this one is step up. Sweet and musical cutting edge. And they don't cost an arm and a leg either despite being out of production.

On forums these days Boss pedals are very underrated! Not so much in real life though. Still tons of guys out there playing out that are using them and loving them. I have noticed on this forum compared to some other ones though that there is a lot more love for them. Makes me think there are probably alot more real players here then other places.

I think the "Ibanez" part keeps people away from the Ibanez Echo Shifter, but it is an awesome and unique delay/modulation/end-of-the-world-cacophony pedal.

I go to no gig without my Bad Monkey. Noisy, not true bypass, eats batteries, but I think it is rock and roll in a box.

Maybe no longer underrated since Phil X uses one in his demos.

BOSS NS-2

There are two others I'd mention but they cost over a hundred bucks and I don't feel like getting burned at the stake this morning.

I should snag one of those BOSS LS-2s at some point. Will they mow your lawn?

Not so much overlooked on this forum, 'cause folks here are sharp ;). But as a general rule I would say that the Boss OD-3 is an underrated gem. (But that's just me. :))

A Tube Screamer and an OD855 do the job for me ! I used to have an SD-9, lent it to a dude I thought was a friend in the early 90's. Never seen him again, I miss my SD-9.:(

Never hear talk of the SD-9 (Ibanez Sonic Distortion), or the Ibanez OD855.
I got nothing against Boss pedals, I like them too :D

Yesterday's underrated pedal is tomorrow's vintage boondoggle. I'd say the Akai Intelliphase was pretty great, as was this:

Okay everybody, we can close up the internet today. Nothing left to discuss. Turn out the lights on your way out.

I want to say "Rat," but it could also easily be the most overrated pedal too. But often for me when I find myself asking, "how did so-and-so get that sound?" it turns out "It was just a Rat." (Not always the case obviously.)
