    For me, top three:

Jackson Pollock: Just a bunch of paint splattered on a canvas. Anybody can do that.
Van Gogh: I was a fan of his early stuff, but he just sort of sold out, in my opinion.
DaVinci: I always thought he showed great promise as a scientist, but his art, not for me...

That’s not overrated, your opinion is just different than the majority of the people.

Andy Warhol.:) He painted a can of soup and became famous. What about the person who actually created that label. Who was he/she?

If you pick any Jackson Pollock painting and measure out a small rectangle on that painting and zoom in, it looks like the rest of the painting. Not anyone can do that. It’s similar, in a way, to a Mandelbrot set.

Van Gogh was as deep as a person can go. His work is a window to his soul. I stood within arms reach of a lot of his work and for the first time, I felt deeply moved. The layers of paint and the textures. You can’t do that with just a brush.

Da Vinci was a genius. He captured light and perspective that was not done before him and that’s why he’s remembered to this day above so many masters. He was commissioned to paint a war shield and the creature he painted was so terrifying and realistic that the story reverberates through time. Overrated? Hardly.

My pick for overrated artist would be Cy Twombly but he still did better work than me.
