Summer of 93. I took a right from Kingman AZ with two hundred in my pocket and feeling lucky on the two lane road stretching into Vegas....baby.

Pulled into the big wide gas station on the turn off. You know the type. Lots of pumps with a good walk up to the store proper. I pulled in on the left side and leaned back on the truck. It was hot, the kind of heat you breathe and don't sweat in. You just bake.

On the right side of the pumps was a medium sized older looking man in a jeep like vehicle. It was just a normal ride. He too slid the nozzle into the waiting tank opening, set the lever down - and leaned back. We were both going to be there for a while. Click....click..click.....$$$$

He was wearing a white golf type shirt with slicked back hair and dark sunglasses. It was un mistakenly Jack Nicholson.

There was nobody else around, just us. And we stared at each other, neither said a word. I just stood there, trying to be cooler than Jack. Toward the end as the tanks filled up he broke into that Nicholson smile, I kept waiting for him to say something Jack-like "Well, its going to be a scorcher today"...or something like that, but he just got in and drove off.

I'll let you decide: A toss-up between a former US President (no way I'll say who) and Robert Plant.

Jim Peterik, of the band Survivor...Had no idea who he was; just thought he was some weird old guy with purple hair and a matching PRS.

I shook Ted Nugent's hand, as well as the hands of the band Emerson Drive...

Played hockey with 2 Stanley Cup winners...one was a player, one was a coach.

I didn't actually meet Dick Cheney, but did get pinned up against the wall by his Secret Service escort as he left my place of employment.

Commandant of the Marine Corps (at the time) General Conway and Sgtmaj of the Marine Corps Kent. That was pretty cool, even if they were there to chew our asses. But they aren't musicians or anything. Dave Grohl filmed a music video where I worked security, I ran into him on my way home and shared a smoke break. It helped I was wearing my Probot shirt and had a pack of cigarettes handy.

Most famous, probably Ron Wood at a book signing.

I've met Robben Ford, my absolute favorite guitar player. Working my way through college I worked with Ken Baker (blues sax player who played with John Lee Hooker and occasionally gigged with the Charles Ford Band).

Ginger Baker. Roselle Catholic High School, 1969ish. I went into a Boy's Room off of the gym (where the concert was about to take place) to pee. Ginger, in full stage garb, was, apparently without success, begging drugs. I was no help...our conversation from my end was "no, sorry."

Simply by the rarity of the encounter I'll go with Salinger. Wouldn't really call it a meeting, more of my nodding and his quickly shuffling away.

Eddie Olmos' mom lives on the next block from me!
(yes, we call him Eddie around here!)

Did you know he was a singer in a band in his youth?
He used to play with the local flower shop owner in a band.
They were really good! Horn section and all.
