How about the "Christmas Shoes" song?

I could be persuaded to kill a kitten in exchange for that song never being played again.

Not sure how many of you guys are familiar with The Dan Band.

Danny Finnerty is a local kid who has done pretty well in the industry, and you may have seen him in Old School and the Hangover.

I won't link it here, as there are some possibly offensive lyrics, but his response to this horrid song is "The Christmas Flip Flop".

    Go find it.

    Awesome.

Man, you guys need to lighten up. In my opinion, it's all good . . . for about a month, and then back into the closet for another year.
I've been collecting Christmas music for years, and it ranges from Bach chorales to Ronco presents to Santa and His Old Lady to some more recent stuff, although I stopped acquiring a few years ago. I've got 11 Christmas playlists in iTunes, or about 36 hours worth. Last year, the kids and grandkids asked me to turn it off after a couple of days . . . :)

It is, by no stretch of the imagination, a Christmas song, and Frank Loesser never intended it as such. He wrote it for his wife and himself to perform at a party.

The Cerys Matthews/Tom Jones version is sleazy though ;)

I actually clicked on this thread specifically to suggest this song, only to see you beat me to it. Bastard! :)

I feel bad about finding this song so distasteful, but it's because it is such an obvious attempt at pandering. It's like it's trying too hard to be deep and emotional, but it falls flat because it is so over the top in its sentimentality over... shoes.

Comedian Patton Oswalt has a go at the song, totally breaks it down, and tears it apart.

    Dont.

Watch the above video to make yourself feel better

I watched some bio show about Loesser, and this tune and its origins came up... he would introduce it at parties by declaring it The Evil of Two Loessers.

We are all the unintended victims of its unexpected success.

We just watched Elf, and in the scene where Jovie (played by Zooey Deschanel) is in the shower and sings that one, is way out of place, tune-selection wise. My guess is Zooey negotiated to to sing something bluesy, as this was a rare chance for hordes of people to experience her not inconsiderable musical abilities. But it makes little sense that the human-elf Buddy, would know such a tune. Unless things up at the North Pole are considerably more uhh cosmopolitan than we've been led to believe :D

George Michael could do a Christmas album: "Wake Me Up Before You Ho-Ho."

Before the internet, I used to finish my shopping before Thanksgiving, due to every single store in the malls playing the disco version of "The Little Drummer Boy".

    This. :twisted::twisted::twisted:

The guys at work found out I hate that song, and now whenever it comes up on the work radio (the blasted thing has been oozing out Christmas music all week), someone immediately heads to the radio and cranks it.

On the other hand, this thread gives me a chance to mention my favorite Christmas music lyric line. It's from the Beach Boys "Little Saint Nick," and just one line:

"Christmas comes this time each year."

    Well, duh.

I laugh every time I hear that.
