I started singing "Walk me out..." and the dogs went nuts.

That's funny! (even if you are just making a joke- love the song, and dogs!)

This is a song that just gets under my skin in a good way. ( the GD version) Pretty emotional song, about life after nuclear bombs, heavy stuff!

It's too high for me to sing, but I play it on acoustic for kicks ( including some lead work, over the changes) pretty much every day. The pattern is hypnotic to me, like a Neil Young jam

BTW, ( for those who care, or not...),

the chord changes for this song are identical to the Dead's take on " I Know You Rider," a song which I do play and sing at gigs.

Here on the Oregon coast, "morning dew" comes in on a 30 knot sustained wind & stays for a week during autumn & winter. I like Jerry's rendition better...

    Thanks for my morning laugh.
    Lovely song.

The composer, Bonnie Dobson, had never written a song before, but was inspired after watching the post-apocalyptic movie On The Beach.

I even had an early Allman Brothers version of the song somewhere on vinyl ( Hourglass or Allman Joys)

I know this may fall into the ' get a life!' dept., but if you like the song, ( and " I Know You Rider" - almost the same, a little tweak on 3rd line..) the GD version chords are:
    D////C//G//D////D////
    D////C//G//D////D////
    F////C//Em//D////D////
    F////C//Em//D////D////
    Repeat All
    *powerful little progression!

I’m a long time Dead fan but do love the Jeff Beck version-Stewart’s voice is just perfect for the song and Jeff Beck’s playing is phenomenal.

If I could sing the dang song, we would be playing it now ( I could lower to C ?...)

    It's a downer of a song, I know ( I love it), but a GD-friendly audience would dig it.

    Someday!

Even saying the word "GO" gets my Jack Russell all spun up and barking at the front door.

Was fortunate enough to see Jerry and the boys play it. I miss those days.

The first version of the song I heard was by NE Ohio band The Damnation of Adam Blessing.

Bonnie wrote it but it was "appropriated" by Tim Rose. She finally got her rights back but only 75%.
    Robert Plant was a fan...
