Bah Humbug? With very few exceptions, I just don’t like any postwar Christmas songs. I like traditional hymns and folk songs tastefully done (that means no Nashville or pop-punk versions). My favorites, however, all pretty much came about prior to the 50s, from the big band jazz eras. The songwriting and arrangements and recorded performances were incredible. After that, new original songs had far less complexity, trite lyrics, and formulaic chordal arrangements and melodies (to sound like bells, etc...).

    I love classics like:

    White Christmas
    I’ll Be Home for Christmas
    The Christmas Song
    etc...

There are a few exceptions. Instead of making a very long list of songs I hate, I will post a few postwar songs I like. Notice that most of them are jazz arrangements and productions. OK I will list a few I hate. Wonderful Christmastime. All I Want For Christmas Is You. Last Christmas. Enough of that. Here’s the good.

These I can hear over and over again, and never get tired of.

Not a holiday song. But it has become one. And only Tony Bennet should be allowed anywhere near it.

And the cream of the crop...

I dig that pogues song “fairytale of New York”

It’s dang catchy, although not traditional styled

When I saw modern I thought that meant the last 30 years or so

I still like some of those older Xmas songs too

As embarrassing as it is to admit, I really enjoy the song "Last Christmas" by Wham from back in the mid 80s.

I really don't think I know any "modern" Christmas songs.

This would be my favourite, I think it just about qualifies as a Christmas song. I love the 12 string chord riff, it's got to be a Ricky surely.
Anything Chrissie does is all right with me, although I'm really not sure about the video but hey!

Speaking of Chrissie. With Richard Thompson on guitar.

Christmas from the point of view of a prison inmate

Where have I seen that guitar played by the singer before?
