Is it just me, or do today's (I'm talking stuff like Starcrawler, other newer bands) guitar tones sound weak? Almost like the actual guitar tone is dialed out and all that's left is the overdrive. I'll dig for some examples, but it's almost a ghost-like sound that could be any guitar, no pickup characteristics.

Who know about pro recording these days. I am probably not explaining it well, a little help? Thanks!

scoop the mids out..there it goes. Also everything so pushed for loudness doesn't let it breathe

slap a marshall right in it..prob fixed instantly

    there you go!

slap a Marshall in there - and let Slash play it!

That will make ANY song sound.... something.

Whatever sound you're talking about, it has to be deliberate, a sound that they want. It's too easy to get a good fat guitar sound to be anything else - anyone can do it right at home these days.

Yes, I agree ;). The last modern overdriven tone was invented by Carlos Santana... That famous "Violin Tone", you know... o_O:D

After this, you have the Metal-scooped (awful - doesn't mean bad, OK ?) tones and the buzzzzy-junky-all-around-heard-everywhere overdriven sounds...

    But it's me, OK ? :D

Music Happens at around 850hz for my guitar. I cant play with the “modern” setting on my Ethos because it disappears. Turn it up and its at once boomy and strident and my guitar tends to be already mid scooped.

I had an OD that had a mix control, it’s like all mix, no real signal...

I listened to Starcrawler, I've heard them before but I wanted to check this out.

I didn't find the guitar sounds weak at all. The drums were kind of weak at times, occasionally not weak when there was reverb on them. The production did not seem that modern to me.

Are you guys listening on laptop speakers?

No in the car (nice stereo). Heard it again on something else. It’s fuzzy but no meat behind, this one today had some modulation. Weird, wish I had heard who it was...
