Or Gaylord Perry!
you guys! the players have already agreed to prorate their salaries depending on how many games are played. An 81-game season would result in a 50% pay cut. there is already an agreement in place between the players & the owners on how to go forward with the season but now the owners want a bigger slice of the pie, preferably combined with a salary cap. these owners are by definition billionaires; if they make a little less profit this season, they'll still own a fantastically valuable franchise.
I love baseball & hope they can figure out a way to make it work but I fear this is all a snare and a delusion. I feel like they're going to make a big plan & fire it up & somebody's going to get sick & die & that will be that.
Agree to the extent that when Blake Snell went off a few weeks ago, I thought it was the definition of a tone-deaf rant.
Billionaires arguing with millionaires about how “broke” they are has turned me into a very casual and reluctant observer at best.
I watch some pro sports, sure, but any overpaid moron in any profession who is whining about his pay during this international pandemic $#itshow, is truly a tone deaf jackass of epic proportions.
If it is a home game maybe Carlos Beltran would be more current? As long as we're having fun I was thinking the first give-away could be a camera shaped like a little drum?
that is the spirit!
Yea, me too. I want to see how Mookie does in LA and have something current to watch instead
of the Sports Channels reruns of older games.
<<looks for dull knife to slit wrist
Interesting strategy by ownership.
Here's how the proposed scale would work, which of course the players' union is rejecting out of hand:
The scale goes down as salaries go up, with every dollar:
$563,501 to $1 million paid at 72.5%
$1,000,001 to $5 million paid at 50%
$5,000,001 to $10 million paid at 40%
$10,000,001 to $20 million paid at 30%
$20,000,001 and up paid at 20%
I wish you’d get off the fence and tell us how you really feel....this equivocation is just not seemly.
As a Yankees fan, I can tell you the Astros will be in for it whenever they eventually come back and play in NY. Maybe most outside of NY or Boston would be less belligerent towards them, but they won’t forget in NY. I would not want to be an Astros player and be anywhere near Yankee Stadium. I fear for those players’ safety. Especially Altuve.
Astros had a great team — the cheating is incomprehensible.
but back to OP : owners and players must give up a lot, but really should be playing. Don’t want to risk your life playing for a percentage of your 9 million dollars? Well, my wife risks her life every day at work due to “the ‘Rona” for 1% of that salary. Please.
I may be in the minority here but I think they should start a scab league! Wouldn’t that be a hoot. Just get a bunch of wanna be players from the minors and colleges pay them a flat salary while the MLBPA strikes. Better than re runs.
observation: the people with the harshest opinions about major league sports and its players are in states without major league sports and players.
I wouldn't want to offend anyone!
People keep talking this way about the players, but not mentioning the BILLIONAIRE owners wanting more. The players are the ones putting themselves at risk health-wise. That 5.5 million a player is losing in your example isn't going to the people, health care or essential workers, or the needy, its going to the owner's pockets.
I am kind of hoping they do not play this year.
I finally just last week got off the cable bandwagon and cut the chord.
I have the internet,YouTubeTV and Amazon prime.
My wife is a baseball fanatic, her favorite teams are the Orioles and Nationals,The only way to watch any of the games is on MASN.
If you do not have cable you cannot watch MASN unless there is a way to pirate it off of the internet
She is still getting used to the new set up and has not noticed no MASN yet, when she does all hell is going to break loose.
They’re not even doing little league baseball or any other youth sports here (a state with also major league sports and players).
2020 baseball - its a strike out .
