MIT spinout is working on reversing hearing loss

They have a drug that apparently works to regrow the fine hair cells in the cochlea. And they're looking for participants for a second trial. They're focused on the ability to understand speech. Maybe some old guitar players need to get in on this! (My ears are ringing as I type.)

When I was in college, I had to take physiology class. During the section on hearing the professor showed us the following slide showing the hairs of a normal ear and of a damaged ear:

He then asked if anyone could guess what caused the damage to the ear. After several people replied, he somberly let the class know the damage was caused “by smoking marijuana”

He waited about 10 seconds and then said “actually, it was caused by long-term exposure to noise, but you should see the looks on all of your faces”
