Recently voted the best UK Christmas song. I love it, but not quite the Christmas spirit.

The Pogues with Kirsty McColl

"You scumbag! You Maggot!"

I used to mishear this line, astounded they had such raunchy lyrics in the 50's. First heard about the 26 second mark. A very exasperated friend said, "ITS pea NUTS, pea NUTS!"

Every Breath You Take was quite the slow dance love song back in the 80s:

Every breath you take
And every move you make
Every bond you break
Every step you take
I'll be watching you
Every single day
And every word you say
Every game you play
Every night you stay
I'll be watching you
Oh, can't you see
You belong to me?
How my poor heart aches
With every step you take?
Every move you make
And every vow you break
Every smile you fake
Every claim you stake
I'll be watching you
Since you've gone, I've been lost without a trace
I dream at night, I can only see your face
I look around, but it's you I can't replace
I feel so cold, and I long for your embrace
I keep crying, baby, baby please
Oh, can't you see
You belong to me?
How my poor heart aches
With every step you take?
Every move you make
And every vow you break
Every smile you fake
Every claim you stake
I'll be watching you
Every move you make
Every step you take
I'll be watching you
I'll be watching you
(Every breath you take)
(Every move you make)
(Every bond you break)
(Every step you take) I'll be watching you
I'll be watching you
I'll be watching you
whoo, hoo
(Every game you play)
(Every night you stay) I'll be watching you
I'll be watching you
I'll be watching you
I'll be watching you
(Every single day)
(Every word you say)
(Every game you play)
(Every night you stay) I'll be watching you
All I know is when playing it, those "stacked fifths" are a real stretch for me!!

I didn't realize until s couple of years sgo that most of these lyrics are references to Bruce Springsteen to songs, themes, and lyrics.
