    Rod Evans!

Deep Purple and Captain Beyond and never seen again! Supposedly moved into medical profession but has completely alluded the media since 1970's. Well 1980 if you consider the "Bogus Deep Purple" controversy:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bogus_Deep_Purple

[Funny "Bogus Deep Purple" side story! The instrumentalists had previously played in a fake Steppenwolf band organized by the same management company a few years before - in fact, there is one gig report stating that the Bogus Steppenwolf opened for the Bogus Deep Purple, using exactly the same backing band.] Why not! :D

Could be argued one the top rock front men singers of the time....

    Here's a cool clip!

Kings of Leon...a great example of why you don't quit music, or "take a break", at the height of your commercial popularity.

If you've never seen "Yacht Rock", do yourself a favor-

LOGGINS- "Messina was totally cool with me kicking him to the curb!"
MESSINA (living in an alley)- "F-you, Loggins! Your &^%$ music makes me barf!"

Under the name Cat Stevens he released 11 studio albums from 1967 to 1978. Under the name Yusuf Islam he released 11 studio albums from 1995 to 2014. He's also released three as Yusuf (2006-2014) and one as Yusuf/Cat Stevens (2017).

My wife got a vinyl copy of Carole King's tapestry not long ago and I was noticing the bass player, who was really good. I looked him up--his name was Charles Larkey, he was part of the Danny Kortchmar Laurel canyon scene, and he was obviously a very good bass player. He was married to King, they had two kids, but he seems to have just totally dropped out of music altogether.

I can see how you could get heartily sick of the music business. I love music but doing it for a living never seemed all the cool to me. I mean sort of but there sure seems to be a lot of downside. It's relatively rare that people just vanish. Jeffrey Hammond, the bass player in Jethro Tull--he vanished too

Django Reinhardt pretty much stopped gigging and spent his last years painting

Danny Kirwan's departure from the music scene has been blamed on LSD, alcoholism, depression, mental illness and such. But I see other signs as well. In interviews well through the '80s, Danny had pretty much given up on the music industry and shunned any mention of it. He was rumored to not even pick up a guitar for decades after his disappearance and didn't resume it until a few short years ago when a family member brought him one, and then only for his own amusement. You can't simply forget how to play. I suspect he just had his fill of all the shills and hucksters trying to make a living off his talents. A lot was made about him being homeless and an alcoholic, but in his own words, he had been traveling with the band since he was 17 and never had a proper home so living in hostels was really nothing new. He walked away and never looked back.
I would never want to try to make a living as a musician, even if I was good enough to.

Don't know if he was already mentioned: Vito Bratta from the 80's band White Lion.

Vince Taylor could be added to the list. After struggling with alcohol and drugs, he joined a religious cult, and went MIA from the music scene for awhile.

How about a guy who became a legend in one country, and didn't find out about it for decades?

Detroit-based Sixto Rodriguez released two albums in the 1970s that didn't sell well, and went back to his humble existence, doing odd jobs.

Meanwhile, in South Africa, his debut album became an underground phenomenon, with bootleg copies selling widely. Rodriguez was highly revered, but nobody in South Africa knew anything about him.

Eventually, 30+ years later, some people put in a lot of effort to find him, and he played to sold-out arena crowds in South Africa, getting a hero's welcome. Then, he returned to his modest lifestyle in Detroit.

There's an interesting documentary about it, called "Searching for Sugar Man".

I guess we live in our own music silos. He was once on the cover of Time magazine, for what it's worth.
