Is it just me or does anyone else prefer minis to FBs...?

I like 'em both but for the avatar Tele it had to be a Firebird type so I went with the Duncan. In my homemade all-mahogany I have a GFS slightly-hot mini (will be replaced by a Dimarzio someday) and a 60's Epiphone in the neck.

The mini-humbuckers in my Silvertone 1446 are the best sounding pickups I've ever heard. I'd kill to find another set of them to put in another guitar.

I'll let you know as soon as I can find an affordable 'real' Firebird pickup. I have an LP Special knockoff that may become my 'Neil Young guitar' if I do.

I already have an Epi Wilshire with dual minis. Sounds good.

I like Mini's much better than the Firebird pickups. I have tried to like Firebirds and have owned three guitars with them. But I love the Mini's.

    I like, and have both.
I slightly prefer the mini to the FB.

Yeah, I have a Klein ‘middle position’ mini (tweener wind) and it is my fave PU ever.

Propably not the most cost-effective solution, but David Barfuss in German makes these!

Chris Klein makes those, but his 12 pole seems even more intriguing.

Because I go for a balanced sounding pickup in general, I prefer minis to the treble forward Firebird style. And I am a huge fan of minis in general, have solid bodies, semi-hollow and fully hollow with minis.

I had one of those Bonamassa Firebirds for a minute. One of the best features of that thing was the actual Firebird pickup in it. Granted, my only experience with those kind of pickups, but I thought it was fantastic. I loved what it did. It was like a non grunty P90 if I had to put its “thing” in a nutshell.
I think in general, its harder to find an actual Firebird pickup, as opposed to mini-humbuckers.

This isn't a contest, it's about what works best for you, not anyone else. All pickups have a place in music, and music is arguably one of the most subjective realms of humanity. What will always matter most to you is the music you create. It's all good, promise.

Sort of. It's a tough choice. I have two guitars, one has 2 minis, another has 2 Firebird (Phoenix). They both sound good to me. I decided a long time ago, there is so little difference between a mini and a full sized HB that it wasn't worth the limited choices and custom mounting arrangements that the minis need (when you're shopping for partscaster bodies for example...).

I love mini's. Smooth and sweet, humbucker grunt if you need it. Firebirds are definitely more treble-y. Think BB King or Jazz at one end; AC/DC at the other.

Lifelong Tele bridge pickup guys would probably prefer the Firebird, but I'm a mellow neck pickup kind of guy so it's the mini's for me.

I can't wait to have a Les Paul Deluxe someday to tell you, but I can say that I absolutely love Firebird pickups.
