Moar Stereolab! It even has a metronome in the title ;-)

How about LCD Soundsystem? A lot of their stuff is very Talking Heads:

BO'R was the Lowrey organ too, with the "Marimba Repeat" tab.

well, technically it is sort of a synthesizer since it's flip flop based and a top octave scheme, no?

It's all about the drone, as I call it. I realized at one time that all my favorite songs have a hypnotic, droning quality of one sort or another. Can't get enough of that repetitive quality

I suppose this one is too obvious, but this was always the quintessential key-bending/shifting rhythmic minimalist work for me, always good to revisit for a listen :)

Came here to mention a few that I see already were- Branca, Silver Apples, Boris, SWANS...

See also: Norman Westberg's solo stuff. Can. Portishead ventures into some of this territory, and definitely Adrian Utley's scores do. Some of John Parish's solo stuff and definitely his film music. Speaking of Portishead, some of the BEAK> stuff (Geoff Barrow's other band) fits with this theme to some degree as well...

Can. Great call. Big influence on Spoon, down to the name of the band.

Is it? In a home organ made in the mid-1960s? I don't think there's anything exotic for the time in the "Marimba Repeat" circuit.

well the way the non-tonewheel organs (i guess "electronic" vs "electric") worked was usually with square wave oscillators and then divisions of them for each octave. so they're a little bit of a precursor/sister technology.

the drum machines were also really interesting. made by ace tone (roland) and univox (korg). not much changed in their technology (bridge-t filters, white noise, crude vcas) aside from the addition of microcontrollers for the sequencing until the roland 909.

Very cool bands, have not heard of those, thank you

If we speak of Drone bands I believe I recall reading that Earth's classic drone metal album "Earth 2" was recorded mostly with a Telecaster, which surprised me
