usOn Currentlymy mini-board,i am currently using either a TS copy or a Mooer Black Secret. What I find I need is something:

    • A bit of midrange but not as midrange-heavy as a TS
    • Cheap
    • Mini-sized
    • Not a RAT
Ideas? There's a bewildering array of choices..

Is the EHX Soul Food too big?

Mosky Golden Horse Klon clone. Sounds great and dirt cheap.

Donner Blues Drive. Got one to give me less mid range than my Bad Monkey. Does the job fine.

Lovepedal Valve Reamer. It's a standard MXR enclosure so not sure if that's bigger than you want, but it's a TS style over drive that is more open and "rangey" sounding (whatever that means lol). Anyhow I have one and it retains TS style characteristics but is less mid heavey and the tone and gain controls have a much wider range than normal TS. It's different enough that I keep that AND my TS-mini both on my board. You can get one for like $60 used on Reverb.

You might also check out a Mad Professor Sweet Honey (I think there is a cheaper knock off from Donner or something also), or a Subdecay Liquid Sunshine. The older versions are very affordable. Those are both MXR sized enclosures and a little more "Transparent-ish" than a TS.

the Nobels ODR mini would be my choice. assuming it sounds like the full-size one, which is what I've had some experience with, should be a nice versatile pedal for not much $$$.

That’s a good call. Just tried a Valve Reamer, sounded great.

...or ENO Trouble/ TC-16 (same pedal just cheaper than Mooer).
I have an earlier version, when it was called the O-Distortion, & a Hustle Drive - love them.

ENO e/q with the 500Hz boosted to taste. Most guitar e/q pedals have a 400Hz slider rather than a 500Hz. I have a Boss GEB-7 Bass E/Q which has both... and I definitely find the 500Hz boost 'better' than the 400. I believe the Clapton Strat Boost is centered on 500Hz
