If, as most have assumed, you mean offspring, I find the assumption that not having them is a negative to be tiresome. Putting aside my dislike of children (frankly, I’m not a fan of people in general), there is nothing wrong with not spawning. I know more people who have children and shouldn’t than I do people who don’t have children and should.

More power to those of you who are proper good parents. It’s something I could never be. But also more power to those of you who choose not to be a parent rather than being an obligatory parent.

Two step-yanglets. They have been in my life for 24 years … errr maybe I should say, I have been in their lives for 24 years. I have watched them grow from almost in their teens to married and one has two children (grand yanglet’s?). One has been living about a 5 hour drive from here, but is in the process of selling their house to move within 90 miles just like my other step-yanglet. We all get together for every holiday and birthday. My wife/their mom, is their best friend, so they are texting morning, noon and night, so I sometimes get hourly updates. It has worked out great for me. I love them and I didn’t have to ever change their diapers. I’ll be heading over to drive the huge U-Haul over the divide in a few weeks. Praying for no snow at that time. This will be my second U-Haul drive over the pass for her and I did it twice for my other about ten years ago.

Ours is in the front bedroom of our home…and that still seems too far away sometimes.

I love her, even when she acts just like me…amongst the longest periods of my life was when she lived in Peru for three months (doing volunteer/missionary work). Even with daily WhatsApp communication, it wasn’t enough…her plan is to return as soon as she can…and to be honest, it’s rattling around in our heads to go with her.

Ours live at home(at the time of writing aged 7 and 3, so duh). When they start up one of their battle royales it certainly feels they live a bit too close from time to time.

Middle one is 3 weeks married tomorrow and youngest lives here while attending Law School.

The one with our grands lives just up the road, and we get the kids this afternoon through Sunday. The other one lives across the coast range in the west suburbs of Portland and we get to see her about once a month. She has a real career & a plan for the future & is so much further ahead than I was at her age.
