I finished lacquering the neck except for adding the decal later. I ordered one of the silver filled decals that I will add when it gets here.

After the lacquer set up I level sanded it and last night I cleaned out the tuner holes and pressed in the bushings.

There is a little lint from the towel I was using in these photos.

That neck is something else! The contrast that the skunk stripe
    provides is perfect.

Last night I put the tuners on and started making a brass nut. I have a gig tonight so I won't be able to work on this till Saturday morning. I will finish it up this weekend.

This is a great looking guitar. Fantastick work. Hope you have a great gig, and then get to finish this up. If it sounds anything like it looks, its gonna be great!

Such a nice finish on that neck. The brass nut really compliments the wood well, great choice! Love the blue on the body too. But the neck, oh man, the neck is wonderful!

I've looked around for some cocobolo, and just cannot find any locally that are as beautifully figured, seems cocobolo is usually a straight grained wood (at least the stuff I can find). Straight grain is nice and all, but the figuring is so unique, it really makes the whole guitar stand out from a crowd.

    Thanks !

Some of the features on this guitar are following the "vintage modified" or "hot rod" theme stuff like the ash body, the knobs of uncertian origin, vintage Gibson mini hum and the brass nut. My 62 ES-335 has a brass nut that was put on sometime in the 70's. The cocobolo neck and the translucent sonic blue are a "custom shop" contrast to that theme. It won't be the lightest guitar I have made but the body and neck feel great, not too heavy, not too light... just right.... I'll try to weigh it on Monday at work.

Take the day off and bring it to the gig tonight. We need two Challenge guitars to balance things out. :D

    Hey Mike,

I think you just named my band. 'Knobs of Unknown Origin" I really like that! Oh, and by the way, the guitar is phenomenal! Can't wait to hear it!

That phrase made me think of the 'Rodents Of Unusual Size', but I know Mike's never seen that movie.

Hmmmm I guess I at a movie deficit here...

Sorry for the blurry pic... I leveled and polished the frets and the glare off the frets made it difficult to get a good photo quickly.
