I came across a chance to get a mij foto flame tele. He said he would take $350 but im sure he'd do $325.

My dilema is I hate the finish but like the fact its vintage spec. So if I did get it I'd certainly refinish it.

Lately I've been liking maple better and its rosewood so thats not a deal breaker.

I guess I could get it and turn into a 64ri so to speak or maybe trade it for classic 50's.

What are your thoughts and is $325 a good price and would it be sonething that would trade fairly easy.

    Pass.
Get exactly what you want, later.
    The price is cheap.
Most I see go for $500-700.

Good price but why buy a Foto Flame Tele where the appearance is its big draw & then refinish?

Hunt down a used '50s Classic for a few hundred more and ya get vintage everything tied up in one package? Vintage frets, radius, maple board, look...

I agree you should not refin but 350 for a MIJ is IMO a great deal. Have you played it yet? You might find the stock finish grows on you and you could probably flip it for a profit if not.

I've seen photo finish Teles with the body expanding and shrinking the finish is lifting and cracking ( Am I remembering these correctly ? ) Any who if you like everything else about the guitar then maybe get it for as little as you can and buy a body?

Foto Flames are great builds, my Strat came with a boatback neck. But the finish is problematic and will inevitably crack and peel in huge tectonic sections.
plus they don't all have alder bodies. A pass for me even at $325.

I'd be sorely tempted to get it at that price.

It might also depend on how many Hamburglars you can find on the neck.
