I'm wanting an SG for a while and I can't spend too much on it.
There's someone selling one of these around here but I can't try it first.
Any good for a sub-500€ guitar?

    What about the stock humbuckers?
Seller says they sound 3dimensional but a little muddy.
    Will I need replacements?
I'm looking for a bright humbucker sound to complement the more darker sound of my Ibanez AS73.

You probably won't know til you try them through your own rig, but maybe factor in possible replacement pickups into the price.

The amp can make a huge difference, as can the player.

I could blather on about mojo instead if you like :p

I suspect since you are after a specific sound you may need to replace the pickups with low wind PAF style HBs for a brighter tone, so you should probably assume that, and maybe you'll get a pleasant surprise if you find you don't need to replace them. As long as the guitar itself is good quality it will respond well to pickup changes. There are lots of good options out there, not all of them expensive either, eg Dimarzio Eric Johnsons, Toneriders, Manlius Landmark (a personal favourite).

Hopefully some-one with hands on experience of these guitars (not me!) will chime in about the stock pickups.

BTW SG type guitars are great. They can do much more than rawk. Great for jazzy blues tones and with the right pickups they can even twang a little.

    Thanks.
I feel like I need another guitar like a hole in my head but, I really want to try a different guitar and lately I've been wondering if SGs can be different enough from my other guitars.
I was thinking about a 335-ish but I think I'll keep my ibanez and get the SG for something different!

I'll check those Manlius pickups you mentioned.

You may well want to swap p/us. I don't know that Orville model; my Orville experience was a Les Paul Special. Selling it was a big mistake. Very well built. Excellent in every way.

The forum 'everything sg' is correct. I have read the vintage v6 sg's are good copies but in the states if I see them you might as well find a special for the prices.your makin me want another sg everytime I look at this thread.

Well , seller stopped replying my messages.
Too bad as I was already dreaming about owning an SG to rotate with my Tokai LP w/ P90's has a companion to my tele.

    Any good?
I don't think it has the VH-1 pickups...
