My take on #1:

Thanks Alan. Back in the day my backing track was called OpenDeepalooza. It's an ancient Dr. Rhythm drum machine and a Taylor 812ce tuned to, er, Open D and mic'd with an AT-2020 and an AT-2021 and that's it - so perhaps there's room for others to roam. My own take is a lean Gibson CS-356 through a tube preamp pedal and smeared around with some delay and compression. As I recall, I was trying to stay pretty true to the simple melody I came up with... sure sounds like it!
