mine originally came with white
tried black pearloid (kinda nice)
really prefer the black
My AmSer is Candy Cola, similar colour to the Midnight Wine but with the metallic candy coat, you cannot see grain. The colour seems to change with ambient light conditions, from a strong red to almost brown.
It came with a parchment guard. I've tried white, mint, black, pearl and tortoise. The white was too bright, the parchment too flat, mint looked like Christmas decorations, white-pearl was too showy, tortoise too slow, the black made me queasy. I found I prefer aged-white - a sort of cream like white that has yellowed or, um, aged.
iv'e got a stat that color with a black pearloid pickguard
I just stripped and painted my old Wine colered . .. now its a funky white and seafoam concoction
Twas a nice Wine
. . . but now its 'mine'
(gotta get some pics)
91xlntS-3 and codinho i'd love to see your midnight wine/pearloids.
i just got a 2009 MIM midnight now i'm trying to decide the pg, very curious about mint green also if anyone has seen a picture!
Seeing it now I think I like the black the best!
I didn't like Midnight Wine until I got one. It sort of grew on me.
The color I don't like is the blue that came out at the same time, I think it was called Electron Blue? - But I suppose if I had one and it was a great player that color might grow on me, too.
Sort of like a woman's personality quirk that grows on you over time...
By discontinued you mean the USA guitars that used to be offered in MW? I have a '91 Strat Plus in Midnight Wine, it now has a cream pearliod guard, which looks pretty sexy IMO. The old MW color is a slightly brighter shade than whats used on the current MIM's.
One thing about this color, few colors are as sexy under stage lights as Midnight Wine.
he means they discontinued midnight BLUE not wine
I also love the colour of the midnight wine, very nearly pulled the trigger on one, I just got seduced by the fat old neck of the Baja what a fickle man I am, if only they had Baja's in that colour.
I'm a sunburst guy myself but I do love the midnight wine. Makes me want to buy another Tele. Black pg for sure with this one.
Midnight Wine with that Flamed Tasmanian Rose Myrtle neck in the classifieds and a black guard would probably look pretty awesome.
I think it's pretty fly too... add brass saddles...
/em wants one
not too long i picked a MIM tele in midnight wine with a birdseye neck from a local music shop for half price because the finish took a few small beatings across the sides and back. it's a shame because it's a beautiful colour (our p-bass in grade school was midnight wine ) but fortunately it lives again, this time with a black pickguard... over lime green paint!
Drinking some right now.....some cheap cab from the grocery store.... 12:16 am cst
I like 'em.
I do not have a midnight wine tele but have 2 midnight wine strats, one is an HSS version and other is an SSS version, I added the white pearl pickguard and it really made the color look great then, now i have to get me a tele in midnight wine color.
Right on, brother! Me too! I just bought some Tisdale's cab from the local mart, it's the greatest of the latest cheap wines.
Which reminds me, I named my MIM Wine Strat "NightTrain" in honor of the finest bumwine around. Trouble is, I can't find a bottle around here in Moscow, Idaho to stick a label on the pickguard. I guess we're just too classy around here in Idaho! (This from a guy who just bought a $3 bottle of wine...)
This morning I had a stock MIM MW Std Tele with a white pick guard. Then I opened this thread and saw how freakin' awesome it would look with a simple blackguard upgrade. Went to GC on my lunch hour and broke out the plastic.
What a great improvement. I love it!
