Thanks for the replies. As I posted, I am learning to tweak mic parameters in a digital emulation the Neural plugin. I have no idea how good the mic modeling is but I wanted some insight into what I should expect. you guys have given me some insight.
In terms of mic’ing my amp, I may try to add a ribbon, at a distance, to the 57. I am getting an attenuator (Tone King Iron Man mini) which will make it more feasible to use my amp for recording.
I’ll still use the plugin because it’s very good.

I take a DI everytime now. I don't always mic when recording, but often do.

Live for sound reinforcement I usually use a senn e609. Probably same spot as a ton of others- barely off the grill cloth- and then somewhere around halfway between the middle of the speaker and the edge.

I have a couple modeller's and plugins. And those I don't pay that much attention to what they say. I use my ear. One of them has a 'matchless' with 12 inch cab close miced. It doesn't sound to me like a real matchless- but it does sound really nice.

Sits in the mix, one of the guitarists that I work with uses an ac30- and likes the sound and "how responsive" it is... I don't have the heart to tell him.

I also recently got an sE Voodoo VR2 ribbon.
I'm digging it dead center, about 6" back from the grill cloth.
Amp is a mid-50s tweed clone.

In general, I like all the 'standard' mic choices be it software (amp sims, IRs, and mic emulations) or an actual mic/cab.

Obviously, it all depends on what you're going for tone-wise and where you need it to fit into a mix. An LDC is cool because of all the detail it catches.
