Hull's Favourite Son was my guitar hero when I was 13 and pretty much the reason I adore electric guitar to this day. He sanded the black finish top off the top of his Les Paul custom to improve the sound and found out it was one of the very first, and it had a maple cap, all the subsequent Customs were solid mahogany. This has the maple cap, double bound body and Wilkinson gold hardware and pickups and Grover tuners. Bit of a shame it hasn't got the Custom's block inlays but I can't wait to play one!

Ahh , nice shot ! Got me a used Vintage V100gt a couple of years ago . Like it a lot ! The necks are a little bit on the thin side ,
not like my 50s rounded studio but really nice anyway . Have fun , beautiful !

i had a peter green lemon drop which had a satin finish on the cap and to make the finish pop a little more i lacquered it. the cap developed some pretty obvious cracks because it's really just a paper thin veneer.

    My favorite Les Paul look!
    Mick’s guitar was/i a 1968 Custom.
When Gibson reintroduced the LP Custom in 1968, they put two piece, center matched maple caps on them.
Previous Custom models, made (roughly) from 1953 to 1961 were indeed all mahogany.
    Great sounding guitars, IMO.

I think that's true of most 'budget' LPs these days... the maple 'cap' is just a thin veneer now on Epis, Agiles, etc.

Amongst the many gigs I attended, as a teenager, seeing the Bowie band during the Ziggy Stardust tour, in 1972, is one of the most vivid, in my memory. What a player Mick Ronson was...…..
