If there becomes a demand for this type of thing with diy's, someone will start making them.

Mule guitars makes hollow steel tele shapes. Long wait list, celebrity customers, assuming prices to match.

I've actually been thinking about making some.
I built a hollow steel bodied guitar more than 10 years ago. It sounded great but was huge and weighed 15 lbs. Lately I've been making some metal parts for a luthier, and it got me thinking of building some more steel bodied guitars. No idea when I'll get to it, or if I'll make more than a couple. I will probably use tele necks, but will use a different body shape. Maybe something like a danelectro "pro" shape.

Are these completely hollow or do they have a wood core down the middle like a thinline?

I'd buy an affordable body in that vein but have no interested in fake motorcycle parts or extra decoration like plastic nut shaped knobs.

Some are cool though, but probably best made in a metal factory rather than a luthier shop.

I would dare say powdercoat it to make it is a “sleeper” fabricated body...

Most of the mules are painted. I'd probably go paint just for the color choices.

There's also Normandy, but I think they stopped making them and they look a little different.
