Mesa Mark V - it’s been said this is the amp that can do it all.

To those that have one, what doesn’t it do well enough for your taste?

Is there another amp you’re using with it?

What’s at the other side of the a/b switch and why?

I own a mark V 90w and my only other amp with me is the little spark practice amp. I got the spark to play at home because replacing the mk Vs 11 tubes can get expensive about the same as what the spark cost. The spark is ok but there is nothing like the feel of the mark V or a real tube amp.

I don't have a Mark V, instead I have a Studio Caliber DC-2 which is kind of like the Mark's little brother.

The amp I'd put along with it in order to have the total package would be my 5E3 Deluxe.

The Mesa covers all of the more "modern" territory, and the 5E3 covers all the swampy and bluesy stuff :)

If I had to limit myself to just one amp, the Mark V would probably be it. However, I am at a point in my life where I don't have that restriction, so the more the merrier.

Every rock guitarist should be blessed with experiencing the joy of playing through a max’d out 5E3 Deluxe. The pure, dynamic, bold yet silky smooth tube overdrive is unparalleled.

It also cleans up nicely when backing off the guitar volume. Clear, rich bell-like chime.

If I were forced to choose I’d pick my 2019 Fender ‘57 Custom Deluxe over both of my Mesa Boogie “TranAtlantic” amps (TA-15 & TA-30).

If I need super high gain I’d use a distortion pedal. If I need more power I’d re-amp it with a Fryette PS-1 Power Station (50 or 100 watts available).

All I occasionally use are reverb and a little compression, which is not necessary most of the time.

Anyway, no matter how you slice it, my Deluxe will be there til the end...
