I have had a Mesa/Boogie Blue Angel since about 2008, and it is my pride and joy, along with my 1986 G&L ASAT. Unfortunately, mine has been blowing fuses lately and needs to be serviced. That is the main problem I find with tube amplifiers, is the upkeep. Hopefully, I won't need to get a set of new tubes, as the BA must have set a world record for the most tubes in a guitar amp. Mine is red leather with a blonde/straw color grill, and a 4x10 of Eminence speakers. I can't wait to get it working again. Hopefully, it is just the rectifier diodes that need to be changed.

That's a great pairing of amp and instrument  My 2x10 is in the shop for the first time since I've owned it because it's intermittently dropping volume. I forgot how heavy it was when I took it to the shop -- your 4x10 must be a beast! Did it come with casters?

Hi guys, I'm bumping for (hopefully) a good reason?

If I read the schematic correctly, V1b is a cathode follower to drive the tone stack. This arrangement is found in a few other amps (like Bassman, Blues Jr) and a 12DW7 would be perfectly suited for this purpose. Has anybody tried this?

A lot of folks swear by lower gain tubes but I don't see anyone mention this aspect which seems kind of important?? On a Maverick, this is selectable via bright/fat switch.

Pop it in and see.

One side of that tube has about 5x the gain as the other side. How do you use your amp? I’m not a big fan of the BA with lower gain preamp tubes — in any of the sections. I’ve rolled at least a dozen through it. But I play the amplifier loud, usually on the 6V6 setting, and like the throaty grumble it develops.

Yes, mine has casters thankfully!
