I'm waiting on a Squeir Tele to be delivered and thinking ahead about what mods I might want to make. So I'm thinking if I want to replace pickups and or wiring harness, I would rather "buy local" from member/vendors on this forum. So, who do y'all recommend, and if you are a vendor, I'm looking for something that's gonna sound like G&L MFD pickups, a little beefier than standard Tele sound.

I've never played MFDs, but if you want beefier than standard, look at the Cavalier Fat Lion (or Huge Lion or Humungous Lion)/Fat Lion King set. Great pickups. Plenty of beef. No BS. Rob DiStefano is a long-time member here and highly regarded.

I'm an avid user of the Bootstrap Pickups. I use the Palo Duro Telecaster set, plus a Strat-ish one in the middle. Ryan, at Bootstrap, is great to work with, VERY reasonable prices, made in USA, and customer service that can't be beat......oh, I forgot to mention.....they SOUND great, also! ;)

A longtime former tdpri member called Fezz Parka used to make pickups, I can pass on a set of his oildales to you if you like.

    .

New pickups are fun and sexy, but start with replacing the pots, switch, and jack. Use a meter to measure pots actual values (lower kohms is darker output, higher cap uF goes darker even when dimed. Play to evaluate what you have and then search for pickups (there are fun ones out there).

For the switch I'd certainly get a 4-way so you can get series humbucker output for a stealth LP when you want it.

You can't go wrong with Rob or Ryan. Both are (as others mentioned) excellent to deal with and both wind fantastic pickups. While the oildales are not what you're after tone wise, they are fantastic pickups.

I respect that Rob always said "new pickups don't need to be so expensive", and when he started making his available to the public, he stood by that & delivered a product that tons of people really like... Tip of the hat

As a long time user of Rob's pickups (both my teles are loaded with Rob's pickups) I would have to say nothing sounds like MFDs.

I played G&L guitars for two decades, and MFD pickups are their own animal. Bill Lawrence would probably be the closest thing, but as you can buy MFD pickups, why not?
