Have fun with it. I picked up one for $20 at a music store. It was a Hohner HM 26 or 27 with a case. Just cleaned it up and started playing. Great little instruments

Check out Augustus Pablo, reggae melodica genius. A good place to start, congrats!

Oh yeah! Some reverb and a tape delay are in my future! Unfortunately I am sick right now and not really feeling like blowing lung butter through my new toy.

not here
I have a blue one that has a actual key board, apparently you could fit it with a flexible mouth pipe extension, and sit it flat on a table;
sort of a vintage Casio keyboard. Don't have the extension, ( nor do I want it lol) but it is fun to play...the vintage Hohner ones are getting pricy, they often sell for$ 50+ on the various auction sites..
I got mine a few years back in a thrift for $15 alas some one had put masking tape on the keys to lable them, all attempts at removal have been fruitless. >.<

Damn You!!!

I just spent 20 minutes looking at medolicas online....
Which to buy???
One of the pre-chewed/vintage models, or a new, made-in-Singapore-and-tuned-in-quarter-tones model?

A few years ago I got a plastic one with full keys and optional tube from MF. It was a cheap one but it is pretty fun and sounds very much like the Sesame St intro (which is very cool by the way). I am happy with that one too! The higher quality newer ones probably sound way better but cost a lot more. Then I randomly found this one for $12.50. I offered him ten even before he pulled it out of the case. It was a great find and has it's own unique tone. I wouldn't say it is harmonica like... More like an accordion. I hear you on the "pre chewed" thing but really, most of these things were rarely played and just need to be dusted and washed up.

I have used Goo Gone and found that combined with a Bi-Lo* card as a scraper, miracles can happen.

*obviously any card will do but this one happens to be my go-to when something needs scraping.

Definitely not cheap (although I did get mine at dealer cost... and there's only been one mouth on it!) - I have a Hammond 44.

I love it for parts like "We Can Work It Out" by the Beatles or anything "French Riviera" sounding. Because mine's acoustic/electric, I can patch in effects if I want. A particular fave is subtle delay with modulated repeats.
