Meguiars Finishing Compound Visible Wood Grain Cleanup

Hi there,

Awhile back my cousin was putting together a partscaster, but he had never sprayed, wet sanded and buffed a finish before so he asked if I'd do it. When I got the body I could see he had it nicely stained with no blotches, but the grain was not filled perfectly, so I told him I wouldn't be able to get a mirror finish. Which he was fine with.

Now that I've buffed it out, the Meguiars product is visible in the grain. And I figured I check here to see if anyone has had this happen to them and how best to clean out the product.

It's sprayed with Stew Mac Clear Gloss.

I think the stuff is water soluble. Maybe a dental water pick?

I actually was just thinking of something similar - using a soft toothbrush with a little water and a wax-off rag.

I'm always concerned about water getting into open screw holes and swelling the wood and cracking the finish.

Toothbrush and diluted dish detergent. If you're squeemish about water, use mineral spirits. It won't harm the lacquer.
