I've been to my local McDonald's twice since it was renovated and a kiosk was installed there. I missed (or ignored, or whatever) it completely the first time, but during my second visit I noticed that some people were using it and some people weren't. The folks at the counter were charming and accommodating either way.

You are being trained to accept their product and service, so they can save costs - period. Its not about faster for you, or better for you. Its about more profit for them. But, I will say they worked ok after everyone accepted them in Europe if you use a credit or debit card. They aren't faster for the customer though.

I feel like I have to order, then race to wash my hands before the order comes up.

The kiosks should start making the hypnotic Vegas slot machine sounds.

I can honestly say that I cannot ever recall encountering an impolite order-taker at a McDonalds. Disinterested? possibly.

Consistent medium good coffee everywhere that doesn't have total funk water. That and the Mc muffins have saved me from 2AM Denny's (shudder). At least Micky's eggs come out of a shell and the sausage tastes like actual sausage.

You know, I was just thinking that fast-food threads should probably be treated the same as gun threads: if you are not a user/enthusiast, please don't post.

Thank you for demonstrating why I was wrong.

Man, after playing many casino gigs for so long I'd go nuts if any other machine on the planet did that.

Why does any body eat at Macs? Last time I took my wife there for a quick meal it cost about as much as a nice dinner at a nice restaurant. Plus I don't get the runs from real restaurants.

Didn't you open the door to get in? The doors have the same germs as the kiosks, as do the chairs and tables. But those things are ok, because they had them in the 20th century. When something new comes along, old people need a reason to dislike it.

I like the new modernist McDontalds interiors, including the kiosks and the menus behind the counter that light up and play commercials for the food. It's too bad they didn't put some effort into improving the food, which is still the same crap it's always been.

Same in Germany . I've read about this last week . People all over the world don't wash their hands after using the rest room . That's why I only use the drive in counter ...

They opened a McDonalds in my local town recently to great excitement. I decided to go in to get something to eat on my way to a gig and was confronted by these screens. Being unable to find what I wanted (I only wanted a burger and a coke) I ended up going out, getting back in the car and using the drive thru instead.

Either way it was a bad move. I ended up with burger breath all night. Yuck. And don't get me started on the amount of litter scattered along the roadside since they opened.

Ours has a fair amount of litter and you get the smell from quite a distance. Not long after our local one opened I was instructed by Mrs Baby to get something. This was late evening, mid week so it was really quiet. As I drove onto the car park a bunch of rats were caught in the headlights and scattered into the bushes at the side of the car park.
If I ever go to McDonalds I stay well away from the bushes at the side of the car park!

That says a lot more about the customers than it does the restaurant.

True I suppose. All the more reason not to go there, to avoid being associated with that pond life.

Mixed blessing. I arrive at the office about 07:30 and, before I go in, I get myself a pot of porridge and a cup of tea from the local McD's. They have the self-order option but the counter staff are all very focused and pleasant and able to take and deliver orders.

Conversely, the McD's on the edges of the town in which I live offers the same service but the counter staff are as thick as planks and I'm more than happy to use the self-order option.

Walk over to the manager and tell him that you've chosen to go to Burger King.

Nope. You might be a grumpy old man, but that's another discussion.

Have not been inside a McDonald's in decades, but we do occasionally go through the drive-up when we are traveling for a breakfast sandwich an un-sweet iced to and a coffee. That's it. The breakfast sandwiches are pretty consistently "OK" compared to anything else when we are traveling. Their un-sweet iced tea is "not bad" and my GF says the coffee is actually good. That sort of consistency on the road is all we are looking for. Had many really bad experiences at local diners during our travels. not worth the risk when you are driving all day.

To the point of the kiosks, I'm against it.
