Is it just me or does this have a cool Lou Reed / Velvets vibe?
Only in the sense that it reminds me of the Cowboy Junkies cover of Sweet Jane.
I'd say so.
It has that drone-y simple, "Sweet Jane" groove to it. Probably reminds me of Cowboy Junkies...
I like this song as it reminds me of the great DC area 99.1 FM WHFS ( '70's progressive>alt rock/later mostly '90's stuff) radio station which sadly faded out after the '90's - this song got a lot of play
* too bad this live version is missing the 'lazy'slide
Yup. 100% awesome. Hope Sandoval is cool. Don’t stop with this 1 song. She’s got a library of smoky songs.
Give me some.
This is my favorite Mazzy Star song
One of the best.
Easy to get into. Good rainy day music. Is that a thing to anyone else? I really dig her voice.
It's a ripoff of Dylan's Knock Knock Knockin' on Heaven's Door.
I've been a fan of Mazzy Star ever since I first heard them on the Batman Forever soundtrack, haha.
Wasn’t that just a ripoff of Helpless though?
Damn, how did this become an acrimonious Beatles/Dylan/God thread? And no, it's not Lou/VU either. You know, just my opinion
Definitely a great mood band. Popular 90s music during that This Mortal Coil/Portishead period. This was sort of the dichotomy to the grunge sound. If you had a hip music girlfriend, who was going places career-wise, you were getting romantic to this...and of course Roxy Music Avalon, because that was vintage And there's something about Hope Sandoval.
From the near the very end of the period when I still (sorta, kinda, more or less) wanted my MTV.
Another really nice one. David Roback's straightforward but creative guitar work and her voice produced a tasty vibe. Sort of a guilty pleasure, like Marzipan. You can only eat a little.
Here's the the sleepy slide version....economic yet touching
Opal, David Roback, Hope Sandoval vocals. Pics, however are of Kendra Smith. Sandoval replaced Smith in last iteration of Opal, which became Mazzy Star:
