Yes, it would have been much better in the 2 position on a Tele.
That said, I am conflicted.
I love that anyone knows this song and covers it. I think it is a wonderful song.
But this is a pretty OK version: not really that great.
If it was a handsome guy playing and singing, I doubt it would have been posted here...

I was just listening to “Beat” last night. I started listening to “TOAPP” after that, but I was sitting outside and the heat was starting to get to me, so I paused it, went inside, and got distracted by some chores that I had been avoiding.

I posted it because it looks like a really difficult piece to play and sing - especially solo and bare bones. Odd syncopation. I could never do it even if I COULD do it.
As far as looks goes, Belew doesn't set the bar too high!
