I have a lot of pictures to update on...

On to finishing. So, first I dyed the necks (and thru-bodies) purple.

    and the maple tops black
    [IMG]

I used z-poxy with black pigment on the ash, but I guess I didn't take a picture. I did get pictures of all the painters tape, haha.

Then I sanded back the dye and z-poxy except for the figure/grain.

I sprayed a couple thin coats of clear to seal it.

The flood light kinda makes the colors more intense, you'll see later.

    Peeling the tape...

Then there was more taping and I started on spraying the body wings and headstock face black.

I sprayed a little extra so I had room to sand before spraying clear over the top, so it's very opaque here.

Stunning instruments - thanks for the thread. I tried playing a multi scale jazz guitar at a GAL convention and was totally lost but I can see the appeal for some players.

When I saw the first pics with that purple, I wasn't quite sure. Scrolling down and seeing the finish progress, it dawned on me that you always build beautiful instruments. What was I thinking ? Absolutely stunning !!

you do things in an order that seems foreign to me (ie had em strung up b4 finished) but it's hard to argue with those kind of results! nice work.

    Thanks everyone!

Yeah, I'm not sure why the previous posts are messed up, but they don't have an edit button anymore, so I don't think there's anything I can do. :(

I forgot to caption that picture, but I was in the middle of making the nuts and testing out the bridge heights, etc. before starting the finish.

So, I have to admit that the spray a couple extra coats of black and sand flat was not a good idea. It looked really blotchy when I sanded and I basically ended up sanding back the front and back (I left the edges opaque) and re-sprayed to a nice trans-black finish without sanding afterwards.

Added decals and serial numbers. (I'll get more pictures later)

    And on to clear.

Hope to have good updates soon, but until then, here's a picture of one of the electroform decals.

    Hi.
I guess I haven't posted an update in 3 and a half months... I've mostly been sanding the finish, doing touchups, trying to get rid of sanding scratches, polishing, etc.

I'm thinking I'm going to need to upgrade some equipment next time, maybe get a buffing machine? My orbital sander seems to be about to die, so I'll need to replace that too.

    Mirror gloss in progress:

Didn't really take too many pictures during assembly.
