My wife just picked up an open box return for a steal. Reviews are all over the place. What have I got here? Is it worth a dang?

If it's got a 440 in it, it'll probably smoke tires...

The cheaper Masterbuilts are pretty good units, turned out some phenomenal smoked meats here. Unless the 440 has outsmarted itself.......

I havent seen one of those yet.
Obviously, its more than a smoker. I see broiler, rotisserie...

But I will throw an opinion out there anyway.

I have a basic model of the Masterbuilt smoker that I have used pretty heavily for about 5-6 yrs.
caught it on sale, combined with a store coupon, grabbed it at well below $100.

I like it. Simple is good.

Just looking at that model, I would tell you first, used as a smoker, that glass door is a waste and a joke. A couple of good slow loads of hickory/mesquite, and its going to have a thick black coat of nasty goodness on it.

But... I would think that the potential of the roaster/rotisserie could be exploited to ones benefit.
I would try experimenting with smoking a roast or large bird, then finishing with a sear.
    Might work pretty well.

I'd take it and be open minded to the adventures ahead personally.

Did I mention I like mine? A lot!

I have a masterbuilt electric smoker that has been going strong for over 5 years. The handle on the back used to wheel it around came loose early on and the meat probe thermometer finally bit the dust about 6 months ago (the cord frayed and broke but I have a better bluetooth remote thermometer now anyway) and other than that it has held up well to a lot of use. I've smoked brisket, pastrami, beef ribs, pork ribs, pork butt, bacon, sausage, jerky, fish, shrimp, and even steaks in it over the years. It does it all just as well as my father in law's big green egg smoker for a lot less money and a lot less effort, I think you really can't do any better short of going all the way and using an offset smoker.

I’ll be sure to drop an opinion here for anyone interested after I’ve had a chance to fool with it.

    I read 440 stroker.
Smokers are cool too and burn a lot less gas. :)
