Turn Turn Turn.
McGuinn is playing his Ricky 12 through a Roland JC120. Nice match for that jangle box. I like Marty's country bends and fills. Leads me to wonder what Clarence White may have done with it had he been with the Byrds when the song was recorded. That would have been pretty daring at the time.
Man...loved the descending riff with the bends moving with 'em. Nice & thanks!
Cool. Looked like McGuinn really dug playing that tune with those guys.
Fantastic. I appreciate Marty Stuart so much as a music historian, guitar collector...and the way he adds so much to every guest's performance on his show. What a class act. I have seen some great moments in music on that stage.
That must have been so much fun for them all.
That was great! I'm a huge McGuinn fan. Thanks for posting.
Very nicely done.
Marty channels Clarence, with "Clarence".
What a band!
RM still got it!
Isn't there a live version on "Untitled?"
I'd love to see Roger tour with a band again. That band if possible.
Great brings back memories. When everyone else was crazy about the Beatles. The Byrds were actually my favorite band. I noticed them most after I saw them on the Mike Douglas show. That was a LONG time ago.
Remember that is done without a B bender - stunning technique
Actually, Marty (like Clarence did in live performances when "Turn! Turn! Turn!" wound up being a medley ending with "Eight Miles High") is, in fact, using the bender here. To me, it's like hearing Clarence all over again and still being wow'd by his playing.
Paul, you were reading my mind! I often thought many times after seeing this that it would be cool for Roger to tour with Marty and do some later Clarence-era Byrds songs. Yes, there is a live version of this on "Untitled".
FWIW, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but - Marty's sister, Jennifer, has said that there will not be a season 7 of Marty's show this year - he's taking the year off plus his father has been ill lately and has been in the hospital.
"...the Mike Douglas show..."
Wow-wee! I forgot about the Mike Douglas show. I thought he was a local Philly PA show?
McGuinn was on the Marty show again last night.
Wow, I have to turn in my Bubba Card, I had no idea about this show!
Looks like I need to check my cable provider and see if this is on around here.
I love everything about that. I love the rhinestone cowboy outfits, the set, the musicians, etc. It's nothing short of awesome. That tune just puts me on the top of the World. We need all the good vibes we can get nowadays.
I have developed a huge amount respect for Marty Stuart and his band. He's a major country musician.
I'm sorry to hear this all the way around. Best wishes to Marty Stuart and his family.
Not just Philly I think Because I was in Boston back then in the 60s.
No, that was Merv Griffin.
Mike Douglas was out of Philly, but was syndicated nationally.
