I have the DSL40C with the stock Celestion Seventy80 speaker.

IMHO, there is some fizz that users have described. Some of it went away the more I used the amp, and more of it went away the louder I turned up the amp.

Perhaps my ears just needed some getting used to the speaker.

I wish I could try one with the stock speaker to see if there is a major difference.

I have watched videos of the Fender Blues Junior with the upgraded Cannabis Rex speaker vs the Celstion Cereamback, even that amp sounded warmer with the Celestion Creamback.

This is an interesting thread. I just picked up a replacement for my Fender Princeton Chorus that I've been fighting to get a tone I liked from for years with a DSL40C...my first tube-ie...I really like it so far but like the OP, I've only played through it for about an hour at practice the other night. I'm wondering how I'll feel after the honeymoon is over. :p I spent about an hour in the store going back and forth between the DSL and a Blackstar HT Club 40 and found I was really torn. Why is this such a chore? :) The distorted Blackstar was a little too tame but the Marshall seemed a little too harsh IMO. I was able to dial some of the "ice pick-iness" (as "thebowl" so accurately put it) out of the Marshall to an acceptable amount, (love that Tone Shift button) which was the deciding factor for me. But now I want to know how the mod makes it more "well defined" (again, as thebowl put it).

But now I'm intrigued by this Creamback modification, I guess I have some Googling to do. Why can't we just level well enough alone?

I am still liking mine a lot.
The Creamback is a nice speaker, I think it is a must have upgrade.
I ended up selling my DRRI and Pro Jr, my DSL40C is now my only tube amp with a Roland Cube 80xl and Cube 40xl as back-ups.

I actually have the 40xl for sale.

I do find myself looking at Orange Amps on CL for a different tone, it never ends.:D

I've owned both of those amps and would take the Marshall by far. I'm really a Fender guy normally but the Blues Jr doesn't cut it for much. I own several Fender amps but that one lacks in the tone, headroom and usability arena. The Marshall has some cons but overall it works with a band, has the volume and some very usable tones (along with some unusable tones). Given those two choices I would go with the Marshall on headroom alone.
