Im sure both of these pickup sets are absolutely stellar, but Im curious to hear opinions from folks who have tried either of these. I currently have a Mare Bakelite set, which is fantastic - but I think I want a set with a little more meat to the bridge pickup.

One thing Mare prides himself on is how the 0038 can sound like a standard tele bridge once rolled down, I am wondering if the Klein (or other similarly spec'd Broadcaster bridges) share this same feature.

Of the Mare vs Klein. I'd go for the Mare.

I bought a Klein Broadcaster on recommendation from someone here.

Ended up not being as impressed as he was, obviously.

If you're in the market for a "Broadcaster" like offering.

You might check out the Cavalier Nocaster Holy Grail Lion. Comes in a little less expensive than the Mare.

I'm not affiliated with Cavalier. But, Rob's service and quality is second to none.

Thanks for the review! Was hoping I wouldnt hear this because the wait times on Dons pickups are so long! I have a set of his Bakelites currently.
What didnt you like about the Kleins?

    Cavalier, within a week.

The Klein just didn't have the workmanship, customer service or sound I was hoping for. To answer your question Caspersvapors.

I've had the 0038 bridge pickup in two guitars and didn't think it sounded any better than a Duncan Broadcaster. I don't think it sounded bad and I'm not trying to bash Mare's but I don't get all the hype. Most single coil low to medium output Telecaster pickups from a quality maker sound about the same.

I've had the Mare 0038 and the Klein Broadcaster in the same guitar. If you're looking for Keith Richards tone circa Exile, there is no contest, pay your money and wait for the the Mares. The Klein is not a bad pickup, just not in the same league. Though if the Klein Broadcaster was aiming for the same "sound" as the 0038, it doesn't quite get there. The 0038 I had was the highest wind, so they were getting close to P-90 territory. I've had several of Don's pickups, and while they may not all get the sound in your head, they are meticulously crafted and top-notch.
