Awesome... watched this recently, actually. It’s just insane how good of a guitar player he is. Bananas I tell you. And the rest of the band! Holy smokes!

Ribot is amazing. Spike and Rain Dogs are just two with him I listen to constantly. Just unreal guitar work.

Cool story bro: His brother is a noted scholar, and I worked at a think tank where he was a fellow for about a year (c. 2005-6). I recognized the name and had to ask if he was any relation; there's a fair resemblance (see below) so I didn't feel like a complete goon asking, but you can imagine my surprise when he said "yeah, that's my brother."

It's people like Ribot that make me despise musicians. The brother sounds even worse. Utterly pretentious.

Marc Ribot is a good writer too imo. The way this song is arranged and the lyrics...so many spot on references. And yeah, his work on Rain Dogs is great! Jockey full of Bourbon anyone?

I applaud you for that! I’m not that style of player and am pretty sure I could never play like that (who knows though, maybe with enough practice), but I really admire him and people who I consider to also have nearly unattainable talent for the likes of me to reach for, like Nels Kline, etc...

Anyone who doesn't beat me over the head with their politics. I may like his talent but I don't like him.

Sounds like a personal issue, not a musical one. Excuse musicians for having a brain and opinion once or twice like everyone else

Yeah, I just don't care for the guy. So sue me. I may be a bit testy today, but there it is. I feel the same way about Steve Earle.

instead of buying new gear, spend it on therapy, Steve Earle
has written many magical songs You Might as well callout Dylan, too.
What is your favorite music, co I can be critical of it, testy would not be the word I would use.

I just don't like Steve personally. His music is fine but it's too bad his antics kind of ruin it for me. My point is missed and that's OK.

I'm not afraid to run afoul of the members sometimes.

I didn’t even know Marc Ribot was that politically active, or vocal. I’ve never heard a word about his politics from him or anyone - granted, I don’t know much about him musically, either. I learned about him from his playing on Rain Dogs for Tom Waits, and have dabbled in his catalogue ever since, always amazed at his monumental talent.
